Find out what to expect from the new stories of the Mortal Kombat 1 characters with our summary; COME OVER HERE!

As we could see in our matter which summarized the entire chronology of the Mortal Kombat series, the history of these games is complex and somewhat confusing, but with the arrival of Mortal Kombat 1 next week, the franchise will receive its first reboot in fact.

Therefore, we thought about helping potential new fighters or even war veterans, bringing an aggregate of what we know so far from the revamp of the new game's main cast. Follow us on another tour of the enigmatic world created by the Netherrealm developer team!

How did this reboot happen?

In the canonical ending of the extra content of the last Mortal Kombat, in a desperate attempt to save the universe, Raiden gave Liu Kang the powers of protective god of the Earth kingdom, thereby transforming the Shaolin monk into Fire God Liu Kang.

After almost falling for another of Shang Tsung's schemes, who tried to take control of the hourglass of time from the powerful villain Kronika, with the help of a long-hidden artifact, Liu Kang redefined the reality of the entire Mortal Kombat universe, returning the timeline to the time of our planet's great champion, the original Kung Lao, ancestor of what we have known for decades.

The reality we will find in Mortal Kombat 1 is completely new, and with it there will be the reintroduction of several of the characters we already know, but with new stories, many of which include role reversals, as in the case of Scorpion.

Did it look cool? We're going to address each character individually with what we know so far about their new stories, so get ready!

Kameos: The big news in Mortal Kombat 1

Before we delve deeper into the crazy story that awaits us in the new Mortal Kombat, it's worth making a short summary of what's in the game in terms of character appearances.

This will be the first game in the series to bring a tag team system to the main fights, thanks to the cameos, which basically give the player the possibility of bringing an extra character to the battlefield. These fighters deviate from the new canon, as many are old versions of already established characters, such as Kano and Sonya Blade from the first Mortal Kombat, and even Motaro, the boss's assistant from Mortal Kombat 2, Shao Kahn.

The complete list of characters from cameo is:

  • Jax Briggs
  • Kung Lao
  • Sonya Blade
  • Stryker
  • Sub-Zero
  • Scorpion
  • Canoe
  • Cyrax
  • Darius
  • Frost
  • Goro
  • motoro
  • sareena
  • shujinko

Alongside these partners are the 20 warriors from the game's main cast, those included in the base version of the game, without taking into account the new participants who will inevitably be part of Mortal Kombat 1 through paid content, as has already been announced.

The fighters

The list of 20 selectable characters features faces we have long been familiar with, but with surprises regarding their new origins. Check out with us who the fighters you will fight in the new Mortal Kombat 1.

Liu Kang

Character who debuted in the first Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang has been part of the game cast in practically every MK so far. After the events of Mortal kombat 11 aftermath, Liu Kang became the God of Fire.

After saving the universe from Shang Tsung's threat, he “reset” the timeline, creating a new era with the aim of fostering peace between the kingdoms of Earth and Outworld. Since another tournament is about to start, it seems like he hasn't had much success...

Sub-Zero

Another of the series' medallions, Sub-Zero went through numerous changes throughout the chronology, even changing identities between brothers, but always being present in the games, as one of the public's favorite characters.

Em Mortal Kombat 1, Sub-Zero appears as the leader of his clan, the Lin Kuei, whom he guides as a wise but impatient master. Tired of his role, he decides to bring the group out of the shadows once and for all, to embark on even more dangerous and exciting conquests.

Scorpion

Scorpion is practically synonymous with Mortal Kombat and there have been few titles in the franchise in which the undead ninja has not been present. In the original plot, he was Sub-Zero's mortal enemy, due to the fact that the cold warrior killed his family.

Now, the story turns upside down, as Scorpion is Sub-Zero's brother and a member of his organization. But that doesn't mean the two will exactly get along very well, as the yellow ninja is against his brother's plans to expand Lin Kuei activities.

Kitana

Introduced to the public in the second game of the franchise, the princess of Outworld played a fundamental role in the war between the kingdoms, joining Earth's fighters against the invasion of armies commanded by her adoptive father, Shao Kahn.

However, in Mortal Kombat 1, things have changed for Kitana: she is now completely loyal to her kingdom and does what she can to cover for her sister, Mileena, even when opponents of her government try to place her twin on the throne as empress of Outworld.

Mileena

Kitana's dangerous lookalike debuted in the same game as her. Originally a copy of Kitana, Mileena used her sensuality to attract her enemies, and then destroy them with her frightening jaws and devilish contortions.

In the new game, Mileena is the legitimate heir to the seat of empress, being the daughter of Sindel and Jerrod, the rulers of the kingdom. Unfortunately, her ferocity became an obstacle in the path of succession, not to mention the terrible secret that the family tries to hide: a disease of tarkatanine origin that afflicts her, disfiguring her.

Kung Lao

One of the most popular new characters in Mortal Kombat 2, Kung Lao in the original story was a great friend of Liu Kang at the Shaolin temple, where the two trained. A descendant of Earth's great hero of the same name, he wore his slashing hat with pride for several chapters of the MK saga.

Em Mortal Kombat 1, Kung Lao takes on the mantle of a humble peasant and martial artist without great ambitions, living in peace in his village. But, as it wouldn't be a very exciting story to take care of crops, Kung Lao's destiny holds much more for him, as it shows that he became one of those chosen by the gods to be a member of the group of fighters whose function is to represent the planet in a tournament against other existential planes.

Raiden

No longer the god of thunder that he has always been throughout the franchise, he is now a mere resident of the same village as Kung Lao. Like his friend, he is also an excellent fighter, and ends up being summoned by his neighbor to become a fighter for Earth.

Initially opposed to embarking on this adventure, Raiden soon gives in and leaves alongside Kung Lao to fight for our planet, after being called by none other than Liu Kang, the God of Fire, in person.

kenshi

Kenshi was one of the most beloved characters introduced in the PlayStation 2 generation of the series, in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. The great thing about this fighter is that he was blind, using telekinesis powers to defend himself.

Now, he is an ex-Yakuza looking for an escape from a life of crime and a way to save his family's honor, which found itself in ruins after the loss of his family's symbol long ago.

Johnny Cage

Despite the new story, Johnny remains the same: a Hollywood film actor with a debauched and incredibly cocky personality. In previous games, he joined the group to fight for Earth as a kind of tribute to actor Jean-Claude Van Damme.

The world turned around and Mortal Kombat 1, Cage is played by none other than the person who served as the inspiration for his character, Van-Damme himself, through a cosmetic appearance included with the game's pre-order. His story is the one that has undergone the least changes in this new universe.

Li Mei

Another character from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, she was the leader of the Umgadi, powerful fighters from the kingdom of Outworld. Unfortunately, Li Mei spent a lot of time in the trunk, having not participated in a game in the franchise since Armageddon.

Em Mortal Kombat 1, the warrior abandoned her clan in search of an answer to a tragedy for which she was blamed. Joining the Sun Do, Outworld's police force, she seeks redemption for the sins of the past.

Rain

The vain and no less dangerous warrior whose look was influenced by the works of the immortal Prince, Rain was for a long time considered just the “purple ninja” of the colorful group, until he became a more full-bodied character in the last chapters of the original saga.

Now, Rain is a wizard member of Outworld's Imperial Academy of Sorcery, with water-related abilities, of course. Ambitious, he seeks to discover the secrets of a dark, incredibly powerful, undoubtedly forbidden magic.

Smoke

One of the fighters in the franchise with the most dramatic history, Smoke began his appearances as one of the ninjas, became a cyborg by force and went through many difficulties along the way.

Born to a simple family of hunters and orphaned very early, Smoke ends up being adopted by the Grand Master of the Lin Kuei, father of Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Without special powers like his adoptive brothers, Smoke uses his ninjitsu and is one of the good warriors in the new story.

QUESTIONS & INQUIRIES

Originally a traitor to her kingdom for betraying everyone in Shinnok's name during the events of Mortal Kombat 4, Tanya underwent a reinvention to take part in the new game.

Now she is one of the Umgadi priestesses, even though she is not originally from the region the faction calls home. War leader of the Outworld imperial family, she has a shady relationship with Mileena, and if this secret ends up being brought to light, it could mean her death.

Baraka

The bloodthirsty warrior from previous games now has a story very similar to that of Mileena, as he is also a sufferer of the tarkatanine disease, which left him deformed.

Banished to a colony of sufferers of the incurable disease, Baraka lost all his possessions, as he was previously a merchant, and was forced to lead a group in order to guarantee his survival in the face of the adverse conditions under which he was forced to live. to live.

Geras

Formerly a lackey of Kronika, the goddess of time, for whom he acted as bodyguard and guardian of the hourglass of time and killed during the events of the original story, Geras found himself revived by Liu Kang and placed in charge of managing the timelines. of the universe.

Possessing the memories of all past events, including everything that has happened in the saga so far, both officially and parallelly, Geras finds himself in charge of keeping the new era in order, which he does whatever it takes for Liu Kang.

Reptile

One of the secret characters from the first Mortal Kombat, Reptile became one of the most popular fighters in the franchise, appearing in practically every game since then. A hybrid warrior, he possesses reptilian powers such as invisibility and acid spit, which have been put at the service of the forces of evil.

Mortal Kombat 1 brings him in his original human form, whose clothes are green and who has the ability to transform into a reptile. Rejected by his own clan, Reptile is forced to head to Outworld in search of a new home.

Hawk

Brought into the MK family in Mortal Kombat: Deception, Havik has the honor of being one of the strangest characters in the franchise, believe me. He used his own limbs to defend himself, tearing them off left and right during fights.

His new story places him as a man coming from the kingdom of Seido, a repressed plane under dictatorial rule. After much suffering from the rulers of his home, he decides to put an end to his rule, putting into practice his curious fighting style.

asrah

Another participant from Disappointment, Ashrah is a demon from the Underworld whose origins come down to a lot of blood, pain and destruction.

Now, in search of redemption from her previous life, she begins to arm herself with a demon-slaying sword, with which she seeks to combat evil and purify her soul.

Sindel

Mother of sisters Mileena and Kitana, she is the empress of Outworld. In the original story, she was killed and then brought back to life by Shao Kahn to assist him in his evil plan, even if for shady reasons.

In the new story, the murder of her husband Jerrod, not to mention the discovery of her daughter's terrible illness, puts her on a path of no return to save the kingdom from the threat of groups opposed to her government and also for the safety of her fragile family.

General Shao

Before Shao Kahn, the fearsome all-powerful emperor of Outworld, whose ambitions would place him as leader of all existence if it were not for the influence of Earth's fighters, becomes a general of the kingdom's army in the new story.

Loyal to Sindel, Shao was trained from childhood to become a warrior with unparalleled abilities despite his birth defects. Even though he is part of the forces loyal to the current government, he has no problem going against his monarch's orders if he sees that the kingdom is in danger.

Late

A creature of darkness whose thirst for blood is second only to her evil, Nitara entered the franchise during Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

No novo Mortal Kombat 1, she searches for a way to save her people and her appearance and voice are based on the American actress Megan Fox, from Transformers.

Reiko

Em Mortal Kombat 4, Reiko was one of the most forgettable fighters in the plot, a mere officer within Shinnok's army.

In the new plot, Reiko became a general loyal to Shao, armed with a powerful hammer and a lot of cruelty.

Shang tsung

Even after all his tricks in the original saga, Liu Kang found himself reviving the wizard Shang Tsung, whose participation in the franchise has been going on since the first game, and is now part of Mortal Kombat 1.

Somehow, he still has his transformation abilities despite being an ordinary human. He still aspires to be the pebble in the Fire God's shoe. He will go to great lengths to disrupt Liu Kang's plans, making him regret his decision.

Other characters yet to come

Among Netherrealm's plans for additional character content Mortal Kombat 1 are some participants in other intellectual properties around the world geek, not to mention old characters from the franchise, at least Kombat pack 1, such as:

  • Captain Patria, from The Boys
  • Omni-Man, from Invincible
  • Peacemaker, of Pacifier
  • Quan-Chi
  • ermac
  • Takeda

Their stories have not yet been detailed, but since at least the three fighters who have already participated in Mortal Kombat games, such as Ermac and Quan-Chi, have plots that are extremely entangled with the entire mythology of the series, it is believed that their participation in the new plot will be Weight.

There will also be new characters cameo as part of this additional content, and include:

  • Ferra
  • Johnny Cage
  • Chameleon
  • mavado
  • Tremor

Conclusion

Without a shadow of a doubt, all these changes that have been made will certainly shake up the structures of the Mortal Kombat franchise, which has long been lost in twists and turns with its confusing chronology.
