May 15, 2017 is known as the end of Orkut for good. From now on, the social network no longer exists under any circumstances. Marked by several purposes, Orkut had already ended on September 30, 2014. The truth is that from then until today, it was still possible for users to recover old photos and see the communities they liked the most like “I hate waking up early” or “I love French fries”.
At the end of April this year, the Google published a note talking about the definitive end of the social network “Now it's for real: bye, Orkut”, by Paulo Golgher, Director of Engineering at Google.
“For some, it will be impossible to forget, and it will still yield good stories to tell. For us, who in 2014 gave goodbye to Orkut, it's time to take another step. After more than two years online for the nostalgic, we are going to discontinue the file with the public communities of Orkut. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Orkut, who created and nurtured amazing communities, and started so many conversations.”
The social network that has by far been the most popular in Brazil, it began in 2004 and survived until 2014. Nowadays, with the hegemony of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, even if “alive”, Orkut would not have the same space.
Even with the end of Orkut, it is still possible to say Hello
Enquanto or end of Orkut is something more symbolic than anything, users who have not yet accepted the end of this milestone for the Brazilian internet can bet on other two platforms. one of them is the Google Plus which has been around for quite a few years, but doesn't seem to have reached a satisfactory base of people in it.
Another possibility is to know the Orkut's new social network, Hello. available for iOS and Android, the app is yet another social network that promises to engage users in a “unique way” with their friends, family and even strangers.
For Orkut, it was good while it lasted, and today, it's finally time to say goodbye. Let us turn the lights off for you, O.
