Alexa can help parents entertain kids at home in quarantine
While the COVID-19 pandemic keeps schools closed and children learning from a distance in the safety of their homes, parents often don't have enough time to help children with homework or keep them entertained. And the Amazon believe that this is what the Alexa, the company's virtual assistant, may end up helping.
In a new advertising campaign, the company focuses on showing the different ways that parents can use the assistant to help children during the quarantine period, whether answering questions in subjects such as math and physics, or suggesting some activities to entertain them. when they are not studying.
Produced by the duo of directors Bel & Ju (who were responsible for the script, direction, photography, scenery, art and costumes), the film developed for the Amazon shows the routine of a mother who is “stuck” at home with her child during the pandemic of the new coronavirus, and shows how the virtual assistant can help parents who need to bend over backwards to take care of their children while trying to maintain productivity in their jobs.
According to Marcelo Rizério, creative director of CP+B Brasil (advertising agency responsible for creating the campaign), the film's objective is to show that, more than just answering children's doubts, the Alexa can be used to facilitate the day to day of its users.
Using Alexa to help take care of kids at home
In the campaign video, you can see the Alexa responding to some interactions that are questions asked directly to the virtual assistant, such as “Alexa, where do babies come from?" or "Alexa, why don't baby teeth taste like milk?”, and the assistant will answer these questions properly so that the children understand.
It is also possible to see some more direct interactions of orders, such as asking the Alexa turn off the light, play 80s music (a request that will make the assistant open the user's favorite music application) or ask her to search the internet for a chocolate cake recipe.
In addition to answering questions and making some direct orders from the user, the virtual assistant you can also perform multiple activities at the same time from a single voice command using the Routines setting. With this option, it is possible to configure, for example, for the assistant to turn off the TV and turn on the light of the study table when hearing the command “Alexa, time to study” or turn off the bedroom light and start playing relaxing sounds when the user speaks “Alexa, bedtime".
Although the campaign video has a focus on the use of Alexa present on the line Amazon Echo (Amazon's smart speakers), the virtual assistant is also available on devices such as smart TVs, headphones and smartphones that have the Alexa app installed. The full campaign video can be seen below:
