Amazon Announces Echo Look, a Device Focused on Apparel

'Alexa, take a picture'

A camera is the main feature that the Echo Look adds to the traditional Echo and Echo Dot. According to Amazon itself, the gadget is capable of capturing photos and videos giving a high-relief effect to the user's clothes, using machine learning resources to indicate the best pieces for certain occasions.

To do all this, the gadget uses a series of sensors and algorithms in order to identify the pieces you are wearing. It's a technology very similar to what you see on cameras. Kinect, from Microsoft. However, adapted to recognize clothes and ignore, as far as possible, all whatever is around.

“With the Echo Look, you can take full pictures of your look using just your voice. The built-in camera is able to recognize the depth of the environment and provide the best focus. It blurs the background and makes the clothing stand out.”

As with previous releases, all the capabilities of the new electronics revolve around the Alexa, a virtual assistant integrated with Amazon services. With it, it is possible to check information from the internet, control other devices, listen to music on the Spotify, create shopping lists and even request rides on Uber, all this and much more at your fingertips.
