Amazon Prime Video may soon make HBO series and movies available

Since last Thursday (11), users of Amazon Prime Video in Brazil report finding series and films from HBO, in addition to the titles of the streaming service of the Amazon, when they search for some content on the platform. Although it seems like a bug, the suspicion is that, soon, Brazilian subscribers to the Prime Video will be able to buy HBO content in the same way that it already happens in the USA, in the service there called “Prime Video Store".

Titles are currently not available to watch. However, if the above hypothesis is confirmed, it will be possible to buy access to entire episodes and seasons of TV shows HBO, in addition to movies. Also according to what is speculated, the service should be launched in Brazil until November of this year, and soon it should be followed by the arrival of the HBO Max this way. The Max, it is worth remembering, promises to replace the current HBO GO, but with a wider catalog, bringing together productions from HBO, DC Comics, Warner Bros. and more.

In the case of Prime Video Store, the idea is to allow the user to consume content from the HBO inside the platform of Amazon Prime Video. For this, however, he will have to pay separately for the series or movie he wants to watch – it is as if, for these contents from other companies, the Amazon streaming service works as a virtual store.

Prime Video Channels

In addition to this format, another service that already exists abroad and may arrive in Brazil in the future is the Prime Video Channels, which, as the name states, will allow you to buy access to other entire channels and watch them directly from the platform Amazon. With this, instead of the user accessing several different streaming services, he will be able to centralize all his subscriptions in the Prime Video.

In Brazil, there are already those who operate this type of service: available here since last year, the apple tv channels (Apple TV Channels, in the translated name), allows Apple TV users to Apple TV subscribe to entire channels within the platform, paying the subscription fee to Apple and watching content without leaving the company's applications.

In practice, the user is the one who has the most advantages in this type of initiative, since he can gather all the content he wants to watch in fewer services and, eventually, he can even sign packages, which should be cheaper than paying for everything separately. On the other hand, the streaming services themselves do not lose out: for them, partnerships are interesting because they allow the user of a competing service to consume their content, even if single way.

Streaming or Pay TV?

For Amazon, the situation is especially advantageous, since it is the same company that controls a good part of the storage and cloud computing infrastructure on the market. As a result, Amazon may not even have to transfer the contents HBO, and other channels that may be offered through the Amazon Prime Video, for its structure, after all, most likely it is already responsible for the infrastructure of HBO services and other streaming platforms.

Finally, it is interesting to note how streaming services, which emerged promising a simpler alternative to pay TV, become more and more like them. If it becomes a reality in more countries, both the Prime Store as much as Prime Channels will make Amazon Prime Video a great TV operator, with the difference that the contents will be offered on demand, via the internet, and that the user will have more freedom to choose what he wants to subscribe to.
