Android 5.1 arrives with HD calls and improved device security. After much anticipation, Google has finally released the Android 5.1 update (still known as Lollipop). In fact, it had been…

After a long wait, the Google finally released the update Android 5.1 (still called Lollipop). In fact, it had been made available a month ago, but until then, only for devices in the system expansion program for developing countries, known as Android One.

The new 5.1 version focuses on new features such as multi-chip support (Dual-Chip or Dual-SIM function), high-definition (HD) audio connections and, above all, improvements to the device's security system.

Another welcome novelty is the possibility to control WiFi e Bluetooth directly in the quick settings area, something that was already present in ROMs (custom operating systems) of the AndroidLike CyanogenModAnd of course, there are a number of bug fixes that the new OS brings.

Support for high definition audio connections (VoiceHD), which, despite depending on the availability of the operator, promises to explore the 4G/LTE networks to deliver superior quality in audio calls, including the reduction of ambient noise.

Another feature worth noting is the device protection. With it, the system Android will become even safer, allowing stolen or even lost devices to be locked until logged in with your account Google again. In other words, even if someone makes a reset factory on the device (total settings clear), it still won't work without first logging in with the account Google configured on it.

Below you can see the list of the main changes:

  • Return of Silent Mode (deleted in Android 5.0);
  • General system and stability improvements:
  • Improvements in RAM management;
  • Fix sudden closing of apps;
  • Improved battery management;
  • Fixes related to consumption when connected to WiFi;
  • Other fixes for wireless connections;
  • Improvements to the OK Google function;
  • Fixes for issues with notifications on Android;
  • Changes to the Material Design color palette (response to user complaints).

The new version of the little robot system has already started to be distributed to models of the Nexus line (smartphones and tablets) sold in the United States. It will then be made available to other locations.

Smartphones and tablets from other manufacturers, as always, should take longer to receive the 5.1 Lollipop update. This process depends on the update policies of the manufacturer and carriers where the model was purchased.

So, what do you think of the news?
