A mobile Internet in Brazil is far from offering a satisfactory experience. Some users avoid accessing web pages to save the data plan or not to get frustrated with the delay in loading of the content. To try to alleviate this problem, Google will make a feature available on smartphones Android which will make websites lighter when we are on slow connections.
The feature will start working from here two weeks, and when a slow internet connection is identified, Chrome will automatically load lighter versions of the requested websites. To reduce the size of the pages, Google will perform what they call “transcoding”, ie: compressing the images, removing less important JavaScript code and reducing CSS.
The result is pages simpler compared to the originals, with the display of few images and graphic content. In some cases, browsing can be hampered, so Google will always display an option at the top of the browser to load the original page without any optimization.
According to the company, the optimized pages will be those accessed from search results and for mobile phone users only. there will be a notice in results of searches indicating when a page cannot be optimized, warning that they may take longer to display, as well as using more data.
This feature is already used in Indonesia and resulted in shipments four times faster and 80% savings on mobile data. In addition, traffic has increased by more than 50% on these pages.
The novelty will also work in the India. Google has provided a page for webmasters who have doubts about the visit report and advertising income of the transcoded pages.
