Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing; Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering and John Ternus, Vice President of Hardware Engineering spoke not only about the Mac Pro, but also on the line of professional monitors, the MacBook Pro and o Mac Mini.

To begin with, they have already made it very clear that the Mac Pro will not receive any major updates this year. With that, four years have passed without any new developments in this line, since the product was launched in 2013. The company only decided to make occasional changes to the machine's hardware, which gained more Xeon processor cores and new models of AMD video cards.

This entire hiatus of updates has earned the company numerous criticisms. Users and shareholders alike were beginning to think that Apple had abandoned its high-performance desktop. To make matters worse, the design of the Mac Pro, although innovative, does not leave room for expansion. That is, the user, who paid a black note for the equipment, cannot, for example, add more storage or RAM memory. This is a major mistake in this type of product.

The Mac Pro wasn't Apple's smartest decision

Therefore, to respond to all these criticisms, the top echelon of the Apple decided to hold this atypical meeting to “calm down” tempers. They said they are working on a new model of Mac Pro, completely reworked and that corrects the errors of the current project. That is, it will most likely be possible to make upgrades on your own in this new model. In addition, a new professional monitor is also under development in the company's laboratories.

In addition, the executives of Apple revealed that in 2017 new models of iMacs will hit the market, fully updated and including versions aimed at creative professionals. Obviously they didn't give details about the settings of the new iMacs.

And when asked about the Mac Mini, which is the entry-level computer of the Mac universe, Phil Schiller limited himself to saying that it continues to be part of his product line. He also revealed that the sales split between notebooks and desktops is 80/20. Maybe that's why updates to desktops take longer.
