Learn how to create a family calendar in Google Calendar

What is the Family Calendar in Google Calendar?

The family calendar is the easiest way to organize plans and events with your family or group. Instead of asking person by person each person's available days to schedule that long-awaited meeting, you can use the family calendar on Google Calendar to check the availability of each one. It's the easiest and fastest way to get organized and stay aware of the times to get the whole class together.  

The tool allows all users added to the “family” group to view, create, edit or delete events added to the calendar. It is not possible to add non-family members to the calendar, however you can still invite them to an event. It doesn't matter if you are a user of Android ou iOS, it's possible connect your family on google from any platform.

How to create and access the family calendar

The first step in creating your shared calendar is logging into your gmail. Once you've created your family group, you will automatically be given access to a shared calendar called “family”. Don't worry, because we're going to show you step by step how you're going to get there.

1. In your browser, go to Google Calendar. If you are on a page of gmail or other service from Google, go to the icon Google Apps located in the upper right corner of your browser.

2. Then go to Calendar to open the application's main page.

In the lower left corner, you will see several calendars available in your agenda Google, such as your own calendar, birthdays, reminders, and if you have already created your family group, the option "family" will be available. In this option, you can create events, where everyone in your group can view and interact.

5. To change the default name that appears as “family”, just click on the three dots that appear next to the calendar name and go to settings. There, you can change the title of your calendar and use whatever name you like for that group.

Adding Appointments and Reminders to the Family Calendar

Now, let's learn how to use some of the features that the family calendar of Google offers to us. The process to create events, reminders and add appointments to the calendar is quite simple.

1. Select the desired day and time, in the open tab, check if the calendar is selected as “family” or whatever name you chose for that calendar. Now, all you have to do is choose the name of the event in “add title” and click on the save option. Your event has now been created, but there are still a few things that can be done.

2. Send extra information by E. for those who are part of the group, so they will have access to the calendar of the gmail.

3. Add other information such as address and invite others outside of this group to the event, and don't forget to add a description and change the notification time to whenever you want.

4. public the event through a link on other social networks or print like an invitation.
