Four other countries are also vying to have the third city chosen for Uber Air: France, Australia, India and Japan.

Uber is developing, in partnership with some companies in the aeronautical industry, its air transport service, the Uber Air. The project aims to form an urban aerial sharing network, in about 5 years some cities will be able to fully count on the service. With it, passengers will only need to confirm a trip with the app and take a flight with up to 3 other people, in addition to the pilot. The transport system will use aircraft VTOL, which can take off and land vertically, like helicopters.

In May, during 2 Uber Elevate Annual Meeting, the company confirmed the first two cities to receive the service, Dallas and los angeles, both in the United States. And now at the end of August, Uber has already stated that the third city is being chosen. The good news is that the Brazil is among the 5 finalist countries, alongside Australia, India, Japan and France.

Uber Air: Why Brazil?

Uber air can be the solution for big cities and chaotic traffic

One of the reasons for choosing Brazil on this list is the fact that city Rio de Janeiro and State of Sao Paulo: are the two biggest hubs of UBER in the world. That in itself is already a major reason. In addition, São Paulo is where the main operation of the Embraer, a manufacturer of commercial aircraft and one of Uber's main partners in this endeavor.

These cities are also equipped and prepared for the service because they have a large fleet of helicopters, thus making it both appropriate and guaranteeing their demand.

How will the selection process take place?

The company is selecting the third city for Uber Air based on three premises. The first is the market size. They are looking for large urban centers, with more than 1 million people, where the service would really have more demand and with this need for renewal in the form of transport.

Second comes the commitment location, both from Uber and from local, state, and federal governments. In addition, there must also be a partnership and commitment with representatives of the real estate sector, since the trips will take place mainly in large buildings, in addition to urban planners, neighborhood councils, etc.

And finally, it is also important to make sure that this city will be ready and will be able to maintain the service. Check out how it works in the video below:
