A survey commissioned by Qualcomm ao IBOPE, with the objective of identifying the size of the Brazilian smartphone market, the profile of users and characteristics of the segment, presented interesting data on the habits and intentions of consumers.
Conducted in 2014, the survey comprises 2002 interviews in three different sections: men and women; 16 years or older; Education Level; economic class A, B, C, D and E; all regions (North, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and South).
Smartphone purchase:
According to her, Brazilian consumers paid around R$900,00 on average when buying a new smartphone in 2014. The value is 14% higher than the one registered in the previous year, which corresponded to R$700,00 average.
The study found that 19% of the Brazilian population has a smartphone that uses one of the main operating systems available today (iOS, Android e Windows Phone). In addition, 7% of people own smartphones with other operating systems (such as Blackberry, Bada, Etc.).
Among the reasons given by respondents for having or buying a smartphone, the need to stay connected all the time appears as a justification for 67% of people. The convenience of doing several things at the same time is mentioned by 50% of respondents and the use of a cell phone to access social networks such as Facebook is mentioned by 30% of respondents.
Link to apps:
The research also pointed out that there is great resistance on the part of Brazilians in pay for apps. The survey showed that 73% of users would never pay for one, and an even higher percentage, 83%, would never pay for a service application. Those who pay do so through credit cards.
As far as free apps are concerned, most users are still looking for downloads related to fun and entertainment. Of those surveyed, 4 out of 10 mentioned having all the apps they need.
Fun/entertainment is now the top reason to download apps. Necessity comes second.
3G/4G connection:
Another interesting data concerns adherence to the 3G high speed networks e 4G / LTE. When it comes to connectivity, 100% of Brazilians with smartphones have internet access. Of this total, 80% have some sort of data service based on 3G / 4G.
The remaining 20% say they use this type of service casually and when they need to access the internet via smartphones, they do so through Wi-Fi networks.
