Google now gives you suggestions for movies and series to watch

This Wednesday (24) the Google launched a new feature that will greatly help those looking for suggestions on which movie or series to watch. From now on, the search for the Google will give suggestions of content that are in accordance with what the user is looking for. 

With the huge amount of streaming service options and places where you can rent movies to watch without leaving your home, we often spend more time choosing what will be the next movie or series on our list than actually watching it - and that's when task that research Google want to help you.

All you need to do is use the search engine. Google to search for a type of content that interests you – like “romance movies”, “action movies”, “comedy series”, etc. also where these titles can be found.

For now, the tool offers results from only four providers, two of which are subscription streaming services (Netflix e Globopay) and two online rental platforms (Google Play Movies & TV e YouTube). For the time being, it still leaves out some relatively large providers, such as Amazon Prime Video, Crunchyroll and iTunes StoreAnd Google did not reveal whether more services should be made available in the future.

How Google Movie Suggestion Works

To use the content suggestion function you need to enter the search page of the Google and type in the type of content you are looking for. In the example we'll use here, we've done a search for the term “action movies”.

Right at the top of the search results, before showing us any web page links, the Google presents us with a series of film suggestions that match the selected criteria. The company did not reveal the criteria it uses for the selection, but from the results shown it is possible to notice that there is a personalized targeting for each user, since we noticed that the listing is very different when we do the same search in anonymous mode.

This same layout can also be seen in the mobile version of the search engine. Google, where it is possible to notice that we got exactly the same results, which is another indication that the Google uses the information it has about the user's browsing habits to offer suggestions for movies and series that suit their personal tastes.

When choosing a movie from the list, you will be taken to a results page for the chosen content. If you are accessing from your computer, in the left column of the screen you will see a list of common links in the search for the Google, like the movie page on Wikipedia. In the left column, in addition to some information about the film itself, you will find indications of where it can be found. in the case of the movie The last Airbender, the page indicates that it can be found in the catalog of Netflix or for rent from YouTube or Google Play Movies & TV.

In the search from mobile devices, the user is taken to an exclusive page of the film, with a short description of it, the link to a direct trailer of the YouTube and an indication of where it can be found. when selected, your device will automatically open the indicated app. So, if you already have the app from Netflix installed on your smartphone or tablet and click on the icon "Netflix" from the movie page, the streaming service app will open and you will be taken straight to playing your chosen content.

And, if you're using the search from the Google on mobile devices, you will also have access to the Interest List option. This is an option that does not exist in the Chrome for desktops, and lets you insert any movie into its own playlist for quick access. This personalized list can be accessed on the suggestion page of the Google, which in the mobile version will have a tab called “List of Interests”.
