With its premiere scheduled for March 5th, the first impressions of Captain Marvel start to emerge. And, in any case, they all agreed on one thing: one can expect a great movie, worthy of the first heroic protagonist of the Marvel Universe.
A Disney held its first session for the critics yesterday (19) and they were emphatic: the journey of Carol Danvers it's spectacular and fun, and it still has a few surprises up its sleeve. For some, the film loses steam in its second act, given how exciting the first part of the film can be.
Expect action sequences and a convincing Larson in the role of Captain Marvel, but who has been stealing the show is the villain Talos, played by the actor Ben Mendelsohn. The performance was so praised that many are inducting him into the Hall of Fame of the best villains in the world. Marvel Universe. A good kick-off for the superhero who has everything to be decisive in the next sequence of Avengers.
But why don't we let the critics speak for themselves? We've shared a few tweets with some of the lucky ones who were able to witness the film firsthand. Check out:
Captain Marvel: The Verdict

In comments that are sometimes enthusiastic, sometimes critical, sometimes amazed, critics share their opinion. Highlight goes to Goose the cat, the nostalgic 90s vibe, the jokes and of course, its complex alien villain.
Translation - “Captain Marvel in a great 90s sci-fi vibe with a tone unlike any other Marvel movie, really. It's retro and fun, mysterious and silly. It's funny in surprising places and badass in all the right places. It's still fun because it's always changing. It has the right stuff. I loved the cat, I loved Sam Jackson, I LOVED Ben Mendelsohn, but honestly I call Lashana Lynch an MVP. She brings an emotional weight to the film that is needed and transforms the entire film from the start. I definitely need to see more of her.”
Translation - “Captain Marvel is a blast! It has some cool surprises that I definitely didn't see coming, and the mystery/origin it creates is engaging and fun. Brie Larson is amazing and makes a fantastic first step into the MCU. Oh, and yes, Goose will brilliantly steal the show.”
Translation - “There's a seriousness to #CaptainMarvel that feels different from other MCU movies. I get goosebumps watching Carol Danvers bounce back over and over again.”
Translation - “And it's not crazy like the GOTG movies. Think more “Rey snaps into endless mirrors” than The Last Jedi-like scenes. Also, finally, the music of the MCU and Nirvana come together (as Kurt Cobain wanted). I can't understand how great Ben Mendelsohn is. I was worried that he was just one of those Marvel villains with alien makeup, but that's not the case. This movie doesn't work without him.”
Translation - “Captain Marvel is everything I hoped it would be. It looks completely different from any other Marvel movie. A unique and innovative take on an origin story that feels fresh. Brie Larson is fantastic as Carol Danvers. This is one of my favorite Marvel movies of all time.”
Translation - “#CaptainMarvel is a great origin story. Brie's crime movie chemistry with @SamuelLJackson is so much fun and her relationship with Lashana Lynch is the real heart of the movie. Ben Mendelsohn and the cat steal the show. Marvel did a prequel the right way, not overdoing it too much, but giving us unexpected answers in interesting ways. The most multi-layered villain story in the MCU. A fun 90s soundtrack, but sometimes the choice of songs seems too obvious.”
Translation: “The future of the MCU gets even brighter with the addition of #CaptainMarvel to the basket. It really serves attitude, strength and energy with @brielarson in the role. Same with @LashanaLynch too! Ben Mendelsohn is wonderful as Talos. And yes, Goose steals the scenes. The second time I’m going to check out this movie again seems to take a while.”
Translation - “Captain Marvel is an effective Avengers prequel in some ways, similar to the first Captain America movie. It's feminist without being over the top with pre- and post-credit scenes that made me cry and gave me the shivers, respectively. By pre* I mean before the movie starts! Although there are two post-credits scenes that are worthwhile, and anticipation for ENDGAME is skyrocketing.”
Translation: “Facts: @brielarson is an undisputed force like #CaptainMarvel. A supreme incarnation of the late 80's to 90's heroines we've been looking for, fully formed with ownership and whose primary relationship is with her best friend. So many girls will see each other, meet and fight!”
Translation: “#CaptainMarvel was my 90s nerdy girl fever + a cat. Mend? ?? Ben Mendelssohn offers Samuel L Jackson a real challenge to see who steals the $$$ sgow. But at the end of the day it's cool to see @brielarson harness the power of being "just a girl".
