CD PROJEKT RED announces plans for the future with The Witcher and Cyberpunk

the Polish CD PROJECT RED, responsible for successful RPGs like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt e Cyberpunk 2077 revealed the production of five new projects for the next few years, including some surprises like a totally new game for the company. Check out everything that was revealed below!

Cyberpunk 2077: Project Orion

According to CD, Orion is the next step into Cyberpunk 2077's chaotic universe. Not much has been revealed about it, other than that the project will take the franchise forward as the developers explore new potentials to tell the stories of Night City. In addition to Orion, Cyberpunk will receive an expansion for the campaign in 2023, titled “Phantom Liberty”.

The Witcher: Polaris

The Witcher: Polaris is the codename for the next major game in The Witcher franchise, which is already in pre-production at CD PROJEKT's in-house studios. The company revealed that Polaris will mark the start of a new trilogy in the main games in the franchise, and plans to release its sequels within 6 years of the release of Polaris.

The game was originally announced in March 2022, with CD PROJEKT only confirming that the project was being done on Unreal Engine 5.

Canis Major

Canis Major is a side project of the new Polaris project trilogy, and will be developed by a new outside studio of people who worked on previous games in the franchise. Like this Orion, CD has decided not to reveal much about the project at the moment, only saying that the game will have a greater focus on the story and will be entirely single player.

Sirius

Sirius is another new game in The Witcher universe that, unlike the previous ones, will not be developed by CD PROJEKT RED itself. This time the studio The Molasses Flood will be in charge of the project that brings multiplayer for the witches' saga. In addition to multiplayer, CD confirms that the game will also focus on bringing gameplay single player of quality and a classic campaign with quest and story for the players.

According to the original post on twitter, the project is still in the early stages and no development has started. For now, the company is just laying the groundwork for the game, and its launch is a long way off.

New generation

The next-gen version of The Witcher 3, despite not having an official date, is confirmed to be released sometime in 2022. During today's announcements, the company simply said that plans haven't changed, and we should be hearing about that. the free update in the coming weeks.

The new version will include graphical improvements, ray tracing and items inspired by the official series of The Witcher on Netflix.

New winds in the direction of the company

In a official statement posted on Twitter, Marcin Iwinski, the company's co-founder and CEO, confirmed that he is stepping down to join the supervisory board. Marcin was one of the main responsible for the cultural and financial success of the company, and his departure should mark a huge change for the future of CD PROJEKT RED.

In the statement, Marcin said the following:

When I think about the future of CD PROJEKT, I get very anxious. Today, the company consists of 1200 employees around the world, but CD PROJEKT has never been about a physical place and its scale – it's all about the size of the talent we have here, and all the hard work and dedication of everyone who decides to work with us (…) From the bottom of my heart: Thank you!
