Although air travel is necessary to cover great distances, often for work reasons and the like, some millionaire celebrities who own private jets use their aircraft to cover distances as short as 10 minutes of flight. A survey of sustainable marketing agency Yard shows that these short trips substantially increase emissions of the pollutant CO2, increasing pollution on the planet at levels much higher than that of a person without access to this type of luxury.
The absurdities of celebrities and their private jets
On average, each inhabitant of planet Earth emits 7 tons of CO2 per year — while only the aircraft Floyd Mayweather released into the atmosphere, just in the first months of the year, a thousand times greater amount of carbon dioxide.
In addition, the Yard report also shows some absurdities practiced with these planes, such as 14-minute trips carried out by Oprah Winfrey that could be carried out in about an hour in passenger vehicles, which are less aggressive to the environment.
Another example is that of Kim Kardashian, who used his private jet to make a 17-minute trip, which could be completed by car in 45 minutes. As a joke, the vehicle emitted 248kg of CO2, putting in check any efforts by the celebrity on environmental issues.

These shorter trips become more serious when we keep in mind that the main contributor to the carbon footprint of planes occurs on takeoff, when the engines are revved to full power so the plane can leave the ground and climb to cruising altitude.
As a result, about 220 kg of CO2 are already issued only at the beginning of the trip, a disregard for the environment if we take into account that these short journeys can be carried out with a little longer duration in less polluting vehicles.
In the end, it turns out to be one of those celebrity realities where average people don't normally get on a plane even 10 times a year, while some, like Taylor Swift (or at least their private jet), they have already accumulated 170 trips in just over 7 months.
Top 10 celebrities who used private jets the most
A Yard collected the data through the Twitter account celebrity jets, which tracks celebrity private jets and the routes they take. With that, she gathered data on how much the jets emit from CO2 by minutes of travel and how many times celebrities have used the vehicle since January to calculate the numbers.
With that, the 10 celebrities who emitted the most CO2 with their private jets are the following:
- Travis Scott – 3.033,3 tonnes – Average travel time: 10 minutes
- Oprah Winfrey – 3.493,17 tonnes – Average travel time: 14 minutes
- Mark Wahlberg – 3.772,85 tons – average time 40 minutes
- Kim Kardashian – 4.268,5 tons – average travel time 23 minutes
- Steven Spielberg – 4.465 tonnes – average travel time 1h47 minutes
- Blake Shelton – 4.495 tonnes – average travel time 27 minutes
- A-Rod – 5.342,7 tons – average travel time 80 minutes
- Jay-Z – 6.981,3 tons – average travel time: 29 minutes
- Floyd Mayweather – 7.076,8 tonnes – average travel time: 25 minutes
- Taylor Swift – 8.293,54 tonnes – average travel time: 80 minutes
It is important to note that, although private jets are associated with celebrities, there is no way to confirm whether on all trips they were present on the aircraft, which was the justification used by Taylor Swift's team to explain the fast routes and tons of CO2. emitted by their aircraft.
