CES 2018: SmartThings, Samsung's IoT platform renews itself thanks to Bixby

A Samsung presented today (08) at CES 2018 some of the possibilities of an app entitled SmartThings which will command and improve the integration between devices in the IoT ecosystem, which make homes even smarter, including SmartTVs and even refrigerators.

The plan of Samsung is that by 2020 all devices will be IoT ready and prepared to deal with AI (Artificial Intelligence). Currently 90% of its products are already IoT capable. (voiceoverherald.com)

An ecosystem governed by Bixby

Name SmartThings (smart things) is not in vain, the idea of Samsung throughout the presentation was to convey the perception of a future just around the corner in which our home is even smarter and completely connected. SmartThings, in addition to being a platform, it is also an app, an expansion to the Samsung Connect, Smart Home e SmartView.

While other market players are betting on third-party virtual assistants, Samsung is moving towards improving its own AI, the Bixby, who made his debut at the Galaxy S8, is a fundamental part of this platform SmartThings.

The virtual assistant will be even more present in the IoT ecosystem of Samsung, proof of this is that the QLED SmartTVs launched by Samsung this year will receive an update that will incorporate the Bixby.

A Samsung explains that the inclusion of Bixby nose smart TVs creates a hub for all other smart and connected devices in the house.

This means that your TV becomes a communication and control center for turning on the lights and changing the air conditioning temperature, for example.

The presentation was also the stage for the demonstration of the new generation of the refrigerator Family Hub that offers this integration with the Bixby  and the platform SmartThings.

Among the many possibilities of Bixby integrated into the refrigerator is the ability to recognize the voice of each family member, and show personalized information, such as the schedule of appointments that each one has throughout the day. The era of reminder papers on the fridge door is over 😉
