CES 2020: Thinkpad X1 Fold is Lenovo's foldable screen notebook

In theory, every notebook is collapsible, but not in this way. Lenovo has just opened a new strand with the Thinkpad X1 Fold; meet the model

A Lenovo announced, in CES 2020, its bet on the foldable segment with the notebook Thinkpad X1 Fold. It's an evolution of the “2-in-1” PC model we're already familiar with – a notebook and tablet hybrid – but with a 13,3-inch OLED screen that folds in half and no built-in physical keyboard.

Last year, trial versions of the product (until then, without an official name) had already been sent by Lenovo to foreign vehicles for testing, however, it was only now that we had the official announcement in CES 2020 do Thinkpad X1 Fold. Since then, there have been slight visual, hardware and, consequently, performance changes.

A LG Display signs as the screen manufacturer, in a partnership with Lenovo classified by the manufacturer itself as a “4+ year collaboration”. O X1 runs a chip with technology hitherto called Intel Hybrid, plus 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for the base version – a 1TB will also exist.

Doubling the utilities with the Thinkpad X1 Fold

The curious thing (and a great differential for tablets) is that the Thinkpad X1 Fold is accompanied by a bluetooth keyboard, it's not like you're forced to type on the screen – but you can also activate a function that splits it into two sections if you want to use it for typing. This makes it accessible both for those who want to use it as a desktop at home, for example, and for those who just want to treat it like a tablet wherever they go.

In terms of mobility, this is a great advance, since it, while closed, looks like a book. The screen itself can serve as a keyboard stand, or you can put it in landscape mode (with the mini-stand attached to the back) and keep the keyboard on the table. Or even opt for it in vertical mode, with the support. They are basically four configurations setup in a few seconds.

Another common function in other folding screen devices is precisely the gap that is left when folding the screens - which happens with most competitors' smartphones. The solution was precisely the addition of the keyboard, which fills this millimeter space and gives a “one-piece” finish to the notebook.

This one-piece look is also accompanied by reinforced aluminum technology, in line with the Lenovo, which provides a better service life. There will be both versions of 4G e 5G, which also helps with the “mobility” issue for those who are going to use it in whatever setup they prefer.

Currently, the notebook comes with the Windows 10 Pro, which in theory is not entirely touch friendly as Windows 10X, which is a version of the OS worked on by Microsoft to be 100% compatible with dual-screen devices. The version with the Windows 10X was announced by Lenovo, however it will only come after the version with the traditional.

By the way, we still don't have a specific date for the notebook, but there are estimates and final price: the version with 256GB will cost $2,499 (or about BRL 10,1 thousand) and will arrive later this year. thinking that the Galaxy fold is in the range of 2 thousand dollars, the price of X1 Fold not so surprising.
