October 19th is marked by the Mental Health Day and, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the release of the song “Beautiful“, which became known as a great anthem of self-acceptance, Christina Aguilera released a new version which can be watched below:

The scenes show a direct criticism of the perfectionism of bodies forced on social networks such as Instagram, where many influencers became famous for their “perfect” bodies that set true standards of beauty.

Beautiful is one of the most famous songs of Christina Aguilera and just in Spotify, has been listened to over 262 million times. By the time of writing, the new clip had already been watched more than 489 times on YouTube.

Facebook has already assumed that Instagram is bad for teenagers

One of the great controversies surrounding the Instagram and other applications that allow the posting of photos and videos is that sooner or later, these areas will become toxic for those who are not within the standard considered “perfect” and that generates more likes.

In September 2021, a lifting of Meta showed that the company knows that the social network is not good for its users who are in development. It is true that nothing has actually been done to reduce this problem, although the controller of the Instagram, WhatsApp e Facebook know the problems it causes for society.

The survey indicated that approximately 32% of underage girls feel bad about their own bodies, and the Instagram would be the big culprit. Another survey carried out by the company in 2019 highlights that one in three girls interviewed had problems with their own body, generating consequences such as anxiety and depression crises.

Another somewhat worrying information is about suicidal thoughts: Instagram is responsible for provoking suicidal thoughts in 6% of the American public and 13% of the British users, this due to the great culture of perfection. Teenagers have already assumed that they are addicted to the social network and have the desire to stop using the app, but they don't know how to do that so that the problems decrease.

Is Instagram Kids the solution?

The year 2021 was marked by many controversies, but specifically about the Instagram, the social network discontinued the project of a “kids version” that would be suitable for children from 10 to 12 years old. The idea was quite simple (in theory): allow younger people to have access to content without having to see and/or receive content from users older than themselves.

However, this was left aside and in an official publication on the social network's blog, everything was suspended indefinitely. Despite being presented as the solution to a big problem, parents of children all over the world were afraid of how the validation that a user is aged between 10 and 12 years would be done. The great fear is that abusers could get in touch with children by circumventing the system.

44 US attorneys general signed a document — sent to Mark Zuckerberg — giving reasons for canceling the initiative. Those involved in the signature claim that in addition to the Facebook not having a good history of leaking data and selling information, creating a tool like this can trigger bullying situations among children.

The idea of Meta was to allow parents to also control the time children would be online on the InstagramKids, this being a way to avoid addiction and avoid use that can lead to delays in school tasks. Parents would also be able to see who their children's profiles were messaging and no ads would be displayed.
