Child thing! Youtube Kids arrives connected to new childhood habits

Youtube comes revolutionizing the way we watch television in recent years. Children are certainly the audience that best enjoys the possibility of watching their favorite shows whenever they want. Second Youtube product manager Shimrit Ben-Yair, the average growth of time spent on Youtube for the general public grown up 50% last year, while growth in channels of family entertainment is close to 200%. 

In Brazil, the numbers are also impressive. To get an idea, the official channel from "Painted Chicken“, dedicated to children, surpassed the 1 billion views, becoming the first Brazilian page to reach this number (Google data from February 2014). It currently has more than 3 million subscriptions.

With an eye on this growth, the YouTube will launch, in this Monday (23/02/2015), an application aimed at children called YouTube Kids. free tool will give access to a program aimed at exclusively for children. O layout will also be renewed and will feature a Design special, with big icons e minimum scroll.

The main screen will 8 large cards with images from popular programs for children. Above, 5 icons will show a TV program, a kind of radio with video of children's songs, a light bulb for educational programming (such as Khan Academy), and binoculars to explore YouTube Kids programming.

The app, which will be separate from the YouTube smartphone program, will also have controls for parents, such as time limit, which can be used to restrict the period of use by children. In addition, the application will also have a selective word filter. When typing words like “sex”, for example, the child won't find anything, just a message suggesting that they try to look for something else.

O YouTube Kids is an internally developed product and has been tested by external companies. According to The Wall Street Journal, the result is a simple-to-use tool that prevents kids from getting distracted by other common YouTube features like the comment section. So far, there will only be a version of the YouTube Kids all with Android.
