How to Download iOS 16 on iPhone

On this last Monday, September 12th, the Apple made available the iOS 16, the latest operating system update for the company's smartphones. Among the novelties are the new lock screen, the inclusion of Quick Notes – which until then were seen exclusively on iPads –, the removal of the background of images through simple editing and much more. Which iPhones get iOS 16?

Unfortunately not just any Apple cell phone can update your system to the latest. All devices prior to iPhone 7 Plus can't update to iOS 16. That way, it follows the list of iPhones that can receive the latest update — the line of iPhone 14 is not mentioned as it already comes with iOS 16, without the need to update:

Before updating, be aware

By default, your iPhone should be backed up every time it's connected to a energy source and Wi-Fi while you're sleeping. However, if this backup feature is turned off, you can access Settings > select your name > iCloud > ICloud Backup and after that back up now to backup your device.

Also, you can backup your iPhone via Search on your Mac. Just connect your device to your computer, open Find My, choose your device and create a backup. Apple also recommends archiving your backup so it doesn't get overwritten by other backups.

Additional recommendations are suggested to make the upgrade as smooth as possible. Check it out:

• Make sure your iPhone is connected to power. You won't be able to install iOS 16 if your battery is below 50%, so it's best to keep your iPhone connected to the charger while you update;
• Connect to WiFi. You won't be able to download iOS 16 with cellular data either, so connect to a stable Wi-Fi network;
• Clear enough storage space. iOS 16 file size is around 5GB and if you are running out of storage you will need to clear it before downloading and installing iOS 16. Go to Settings > General> iPhone storage to exclude large files and applications.

Once you are sure that you are on stable Wi-Fi internet and with the battery connected — or at least full — go to the application Settings > General > Software update. Wait a few seconds (or minutes, depending on your device's performance) for the update to appear. It may not appear prominently, so search to the bottom of the page for “iOS 16".
