Did you know that you could have money left behind in banks and not even realize it? Amounts from closed accounts with balances, improperly charged fees, consortium shares, and amounts owed to companies or even deceased individuals are just a few examples. According to the Central Bank's (BACEN) System of Receivables (SVR), there are approximately R$ 10 billion available for rescue. Of this total, R$7,5 billion belongs to 43,9 million individuals, and R$2,5 billion to 4,2 million companies. See the step-by-step guide on how to check and redeem these amounts:
Why might there be money of yours forgotten in banks?

There are several reasons why someone might have money left behind in banks. The most common situation involves closed checking or savings accounts with a remaining balance that hasn't been withdrawn. It's also common for financial institutions to charge undue fees, acknowledge the error, and refund the amount without the customer noticing. Furthermore, contracted and unused services, such as insurance or banking packages, can generate unclaimed credits. These amounts remain unclaimed until someone requests them.
In the case of deceased individuals, it is common for them to leave active bank accounts, consortium shares, financial investments, or even amounts related to refunds for fees and services, without their family members' knowledge. Since these funds are not automatically transferred to heirs, they remain registered in the deceased's name. Many families only discover the existence of these funds years later, when seeking information about the assets left behind or when formally inquiring about the deceased's data with financial institutions.
Companies are also prone to leaving money forgotten in financial institutions. This can occur when accounts with residual balances are closed, bank fee refunds are returned, foreign exchange transaction credits are received, partial investment withdrawals are made, or consortium funds are not withdrawn. In companies that have undergone administrative changes or have decentralized accounting, it is common for some of these funds to go unidentified and end up inactive.
In all these cases, whether involving an individual, deceased, or legal entity, the omission generally occurs due to a lack of detailed financial control, a lack of communication from institutions, or changes in ownership, such as death or a change of CNPJ (Brazilian Registry of Legal Entities). These amounts, although often small, belong to the owners or their heirs and can be recovered as soon as they are identified.
BACEN's Receivables System (SVR)
O Values Receivable System (SVR) is a platform created by Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN)) to allow individuals and legal entities to consult and request the return of forgotten or unclaimed amounts from financial institutions. These amounts may include closed bank accounts with available balance, undue charges, unclaimed consortium shares, among other resources held by banks and other financial institutions.
To access SVR, you must have an account on the portal gov.br with level talk ou gold. The query is made on the system's official website and, after informing the CPF ou Tax ID and birth date or opening of the company, the user is informed if there are funds available. If there are funds to receive, the system will indicate the amount and provide instructions for requesting the withdrawal, which can be done via Pix or through another channel informed by the financial institution.
The request process varies depending on the available amount and the responsible institution. In some cases, the withdrawal can be made directly through the website; in others, you will need to contact the bank or entity indicated. The Central Bank acts only as an intermediary for the information and is not responsible for payment. The SVR is a service safe, free and can be consulted as many times as necessary.
