How to Login Without Password to Windows and Microsoft Services

Many people are opting for alternative logins, no need to enter passwords. On smartphones, for example, there are digital logins or face recognition. For those who use a computer with Windows, you know that you need a password to log in, but Microsoft recently released a way to Windows passwordless login, through the application Microsoft Authenticator. Reasons to release login without password

At first, it might sound a bit controversial to try to increase the security of your devices by removing the password, right? But that is exactly the purpose of offering a login alternative. According to Microsoft, passwords considered weak are the biggest target for attacks on both personal and corporate accounts. Reports point to around 580 attacks per second, reaching a staggering 18 billion a year. With that in mind and through Microsoft Authenticator, it will be possible to reinforce the security of devices that possibly had some fragility in access.

What is Microsoft Authenticator?

Launched in 2015, the app Microsoft Authenticator serves as a remediation between the user and some platform he would like to access. It is not exclusively for accessing Microsoft products, such as your PC or an Xbox, for example, but it is possible to include two-step authentication for other services, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

How to configure passwordless login in Windows

• First of all, you need to download and install Microsoft Authenticator on your smartphone and link your Microsoft account to the app. In this case, you can download the application from Microsoft Authenticator in devices with Android ou iOS/iPadOS;

• After downloading the app on your smartphone, click the blue lock icon icon to access it. Click I agree and then “Sign in with your Microsoft account” (or access according to the other available options). If you choose the first option, enter your account login and password;

• If you haven't accessed this account for a while, they may ask you to confirm your identity by requesting a Microsoft Account Security Code in an alternate email address. If so, proceed with the directions that appear. After that, the account you have chosen will already be linked to the app;
• Now, access the website ecosystem to allow your account to be logged in without a password. Enter your login and password, and after logging in, click on the option “Safety";

• Now choose the third square, “Advanced security options";

• Scroll down a bit and additional security, in the option on the right in account without password, notice that it says OFF. Click in "activate“, just below;

• By clicking on “activate” will appear a message reinforcing that, by choosing to have your account login without a password, you are accepting a feature that reinforces the security of your device(s). • Now a message will appear on the computer asking you to access the Microsoft Authenticator to confirm the change to passwordless login;

• In the application, confirm the information to proceed, such as the registered email, location and from which device you are approving that procedure. If everyone hits, click “To approve" and ready! A message from "Okay” will appear at the top of your smartphone screen, confirming completion, as well as on the Microsoft website as well.

I want to reset my account password

In this case you simply have to do the opposite procedure. Follow the same steps and, when you reach “Additional security”, click on “Hang up“, this way you will be warned that creating a password will increase the risk of attacks on your account. But if you want to proceed, just enter a new password (not any other already used on the platform) and proceed.
