How to recover deleted WhatsApp messages using WAMR

Some time ago, the Meta incorporated into the WhatsApp the function of delete a sent message, an action that can be carried out in up to seven days. The option allows the user to delete the message for everyone or just for themselves. Despite being useful, the function further increases people's curiosity to know the content of deleted WhatsApp messages.

But for everything — or almost everything — there is a solution. In this case, there is an application called WAMR, which allows the recovery of deleted WhatsApp messages, regardless of the format — text, audio, image, gif, sticker or video. 

The application retrieves messages through incoming sending notifications that WhatsApp reports, as long as the sender, group or person is not muted. WAMR: how does it work?

First of all, it is necessary to highlight the limitations of the application. According to Drilens, application developer, WAMR cannot directly access messages from the WhatsApp, as files are end-to-end encrypted. Therefore, the application can only read messages that appear in smartphone notifications. Another important point is that the WAMR does not recover messages received and deleted before installing the tool on the smartphone.

In terms of data security, the Drilens informs that the information is encrypted in transit, that is, the messages are received by the application when sent and then encrypted. Furthermore, messages and other data are not shared with third parties.

The only available solution is to read them in the notifications you receive and create a message backup based on your notification history. When the WAMR detect that a message has been deleted, it will immediately show a notification

Messages that were received and deleted by the sender while you were offline or with an unstable internet connection will not be saved by the sender. WAMR, as the application will not receive the message notification to save it. Check out the step-by-step guide on how to use WAMR on WhatsApp.

How to configure WAMR

• Step 1: access the Google Play Store and download the WAMR. 

• Step 2: with the app downloaded, open the WAMR and start installing and configuring the application. Carefully read the notice, terms of use and privacy policy and then click “Accept”. In the next tab, click “Activate”.

• Step 3: When you click “Activate”, the smartphone configuration page will automatically open for you to authorize the WAMR access the device's notifications. Activate the function and return to the application screen. 

• Step 4: The next tabs will present a quick tutorial on how the application works. Read, confirm reading and move to the next tab by clicking on the arrow.

• Step 5: beyond WhatsApp, WAMR also allows you to retrieve messages from other social networks, such as Instagram, TikTok, Messenger e Facebook. Select the networks you want to monitor, click “Allow” and then the arrow located in the bottom right corner of the screen.

• Step 6: Then, some more warnings will appear regarding the operation of the application and security. Read them carefully and click on the arrow and then on the check mark, both located in the bottom left corner of the screen. 

• Step 7: When you finish configuring the application, it will open the home page, showing the tab where received messages, files and downloads will be located.

• Step 8: After being installed, the application will recover the content of messages that have been deleted. To read deleted messages from WhatsAppopen the WARM and click on the clock icon located in the upper left corner of the screen. There will be all messages received and retrieved by the application.

However, it is important to highlight that the WAMR, for now, only saves text messages and reactions. Other message files, such as images, videos, stickers and gifs, are not yet displayed on the WAMR. But they are registered in the section, as the image below shows.

Step 9: Still in the application options, in the top bar of the screen, you can access the received media files by clicking on the clip icon. However, this option is not working yet. The function will be implemented correctly in future updates.
