How about transforming a huge hangar off in a Tropical Resort?

This was the incredible idea of a company called tanjong, who bought a former airship hangar valued at $110 million from a bankrupt German company called Position Lifter AG.

On the left: you can see the airship hangar, considered the largest free-span building in the world, located 40 kilometers south of Berlin. Right: the same building today, renamed to Tropical Islands Resort, a huge water park with its own tropical forest indoor.

The huge hangar, measuring 1.181 meters in length, for 688 meters wide, for 351 meters tall, was built by Carl von Gablenz, a German businessman who thought that helium airships were the future of heavy machinery transport. His company, the Position Lifter AG, even used the hangar to house a prototype aircraft capable of transporting 60 tons. However, in 2002 she went bankrupt, being forced to sell her building to the tanjong, a Malaysian company.

Since Tanjong was not in the airship business, it redesigned the hangar for its Tropical Islands Resort, a huge indoor theme park. They welded the steel doors of 600 tonnes , and replaced its steel skin with 20.000 square meters of translucent film.

Furthermore, they included everything necessary to build a paradise: Lots of sand, 50 thousand trees of about 600 varieties (which gives the park the title of world's largest indoor rainforest) and, of course, a nine-story waterslide!
