Lady Bird: Time to Fly (2017)
Original title: Lady Bird
Between daily conflicts with her mother and typical teenage situations, Lady Bird (Saoirse Ronan) dreams of being free. Until she reaches the long-awaited majority, in a relatively religious setting – I say this because they do not portray Catholic school with the conservatism and fervor that they normally do -, the girl experiences love and learns the value of true friendships.
It's interesting how they portray Lady Bird's desire to belong to a group and, at the same time, free herself from all the ties that prevent her from following the path she wants. It's a good film about reality, expectations and growing up.

The Substitute (2011)
Original title: Detachment
In one of the best independent films, despite his gift of becoming attached to his students, Henry Barthes (Adrien Brody) chooses to be a substitute teacher to keep his distance, but this barrier is about to be broken when he starts working at a problematic public school.
Henry's ramblings about his life and the reality of being a teacher, specifically a substitute, are extremely poetic and provoke good reflections, but for God's sake, what a sad film. ⠀⠀
The traumas that Barthes suffered in his childhood made him avoid connecting with people as much as possible, but at the same time that he feels an eternal emptiness, the pain of the world hits him in an inexplicable way. In addition to playing his role as an educator, he exercises a type of kindness that I suspect only people who deal directly with others in their professions possess – even if they don't receive it in return most of the time.

Original title: Nightcrawler
In one of the best independent films, when Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), a con man desperate for work, enters the world of Los Angeles crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.
This film exudes the energy of Cidade Alerta. It's another example of how the spectacle society works, proving that the important thing is not the fact itself, but whether it resonates and is attractive enough to hold people's attention.
Direction: And Gilroy
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton
