If there's one cool thing about cinema, it's being able to see the stories of important or famous figures in the best cinematographic format. This is where biopics stand out and where the film Our Dream: The story of Claudinho and Buchecha fits. The film's main objective is to be a tribute to Claudia, who died in 2002 in a car accident.
Starting from this end, the story is narrated by cheek to show us how they met and how they became one of the most incredible duos in Brazil. I was invited to watch it a few days before and the film is already on display.
A wonderful tribute

Making a film based on the story of a duo is nothing new, but that doesn't mean we're tired, after all there are countless artists out there that we'd like to get to know. In case of Our dream, for me, it worked like a diary, after all, the film unfolds entirely in Buchecha's vision (Juan Paiva). He is the one who narrates, gives the details and so on.
I particularly liked this decision a lot, mainly because it was a tribute to Buchecha from reality. Even so, the other characters don't waste space. We see a lot of bonding, drama and also the successes of each character on screen, without anything seeming vague or just on a whim.
When we left for Claudia, he won my heart. The actor Lukas Koka Hairstyle delivers a dreamy, fun character with wonderful charisma. He is the one who gives the starting point for the duo to emerge and he is also the one who holds the wave in the most difficult moments of Buchecha's life.
Although the idea of narrative from perspective works well, the film's notion of time is confusing and leaves us a little lost at times. It's not something that ruins the experience, but it does get out of sync.
Toxic relationship with Buchecha's father

This is a topic that bothered me in the film and that goes beyond it. Buchecha's father, called Buchechão, played by Nando Cunha, is one of the characters that caused me the most hatred in the film. The boy always wanted to make his father proud and whenever he achieved something, he went there to show his father. In all these situations, his father despised him, even when he didn't treat him like trash.
And there we have two important points. The film tries to convey an idea of forgiveness regarding this issue between Buchecha and her father, but it was particularly the thing I liked least. Not because of the message itself, but in how it is presented. It's literally the role of a son who owes nothing to his father being psychologically abused over the years and simply out of nowhere having to forgive just for being his father.
The second point is that this must have actually happened, since this type of relationship is super common in everyday life. Mega-troubled fathers and mothers taking out their frustrations on their children and ultimately demanding respect and gratitude. To reiterate, I only have the film's vision here and with this material, I didn't like the message, although it may, yes, be reality, unfortunately.
Dancing and striking soundtrack
Finally, we have the musical part of the film, which is wonderful. The film uses and abuses the best funk rhythms of the time, such as, for example, I just want to be happy de Cidinho and Cidoca. More than that, it's very interesting to see how the duo came about, just as something crazy in Claudinho's head and in this context they started to explode on the radio.
Our dream, the song that also gives the film its name, is of paramount importance in the story as it was the first song by the duo in which they did something with a record company and then started making real money. Although it goes through all the duo's phases and showcases their greatest successes, one song in particular stood out among the others and, thanks to the feature film, it is plausible to understand one of the reasons why.
The song Fico Assim Sem Você is today the most played in Spotify, just so we have a parameter here. In the film, she is the last to be portrayed and fits perfectly into the narrative just before Claudinho's accident. It's a bit sinister, but it serves as the singer's farewell to Buchecha and his family; When everything actually happens, even if the audience already knew, it is still a shock, thanks to the context created in the film.
Verdict

Our Dream: The story of Claudinho and Buchecha It fulfills its role with excellence in transporting us into the duo's lives and telling us every detail of it. We see their origins, dilemmas and successes too.
The plot develops very well and we soon become attached to the characters. I had a real problem with Buchecha's father's story because it's something that bothers me in a general context, but it's not something that necessarily makes the film bad.
Finally, being transported to that time and seeing how the duo was created and how talented they were is something wonderful and highly recommended. Go to the cinema and have a laugh, enjoy the sound and maybe even cry at the end.
