If your smartphone realme doesn't have a feature highlighted here, it could be due to an update that hasn't arrived yet or some difference in hardware ou with between devices. Check out our 30 tips and tricks for realme smartphones now.

always on screen

Always on display on realme 9 pro+
Always on Display is a very interesting and customizable feature (Image: Tiago Rodrigues)

This function is not unique to realme, but it is a very popular resource. Better known as Always On Display, this feature makes the device's screen always active, only with details such as time, date, music and notifications, in addition to allowing a range of customizations according to the system.

Although very interesting, this function is only available on smartphones with a AMOLED or similar, since, in these screens, the black color does not use any pixels, consuming less battery and valuing the quality of the resource.

If your smartphone actually supports the feature, just go to settings, then customizations. On this screen you will see several blocks, among them the Always on Display, where you can not only enable it, but also customize how it works.

Author's Note: on the realme 9 pro+ that I tested, even with the function activated, the feature did not work and so far no update has fixed this.

custom icons

On most devices Android, the most we can do is modify the format of the home screen icons. Because it bears much resemblance to the custom roms (like Lineage OS, for example), Realme UI allows for some very specific customizations, such as icons.

Without having to install anything separately, by touching and holding your finger on the main screen, we can go to the icon settings. In addition to being able to change the size and format according to the pre-installed functions, if you download an icon pack from the Play Store, you will be able to apply it here. Check out some versions I made on really 9 pro+:

Customizing system icons is one of 30 realme smartphone tips and tricks
Customizing the icons on your realme is very easy and gives your smartphone a unique look

Create wallpapers directly from the gallery

If you are a person who likes simpler but still beautiful wallpapers, this feature is perfect for you. For it to work, tap and hold on the home screen and go to background pictures. Choose a photo that you find interesting and then tap on the light bulb icon that will appear in the middle of the photo.

In a process of magic or whatever happens, the system will give you some photo options based on the colors of that image. They are simple images, but very beautiful and well made and if you choose a nice photo, you will have a very interesting color combination.

Change quick settings format

Following the same path of customizing the icons, the really UI allows you to customize many other parts of the smartphone. One involves the quick settings, the one when you pull up the notification bar and turn on the flashlight, turn bluetooth on and off, etc.

To change the format of the quick settings, just follow all the way you did to activate the Always On Display and, in those blocks, you will see a setting with exactly that name: quick settings.

When entering this configuration, you will be able to define between 6 different formats, such as square, rounded corners and others.

Customize system colors

A really cool new feature that arrived with Android 12 was the ability to customize the color of the entire system. While this has become native to Android, companies have been applying the feature each in their own way. This was no different around here.

Again in settings and menu customizations, you will find the option colors. In this session, in addition to the pre-defined colors, you have two more options: choose colors based on your wallpaper or simply customize to your liking.

The first function, while interesting, is not very smart. Even if you get an image with very interesting and varied colors, it can happen that you simply choose the most boring colors in the image, making you have to choose your way.

The customize is good, but it allows you to choose just one color for the entire system and unfortunately, unlike what happens in the original version of Android 12, these colors do not affect the icons and widgets, which I considered as a negative point in this case.

Change fingerprint style

Smartphones having a fingerprint sensor is no longer a surprise to anyone. However, when we have these sensors under the screen, we get one more point with personalization. Not every manufacturer puts this function in place, but here at realme 9 pro + it is possible.

Again in the system customizations tab, if we go down there, we will find the option fingerprint style. Here, when opening this tab, I came across 8 animation options for the fingerprint, which may or may not differ according to the model and even with future updates.

  • Customizing fingerprint animation on realme smartphones

edge lighting

This function is for you who like to be stylish. Instead of just hearing a simple notification noise, why not light up the edges of the device? With this function you can have this experience and if your device has a more rounded edge, it will look even more stylish.

Maybe this is the last time on the list, but let's go back to the personalization settings and in the last option you find the option edge lighting. Here you will have 3 color options: blue, red and yellow.

Change home screen style

Different types of users require different types of home screens. Some prefer the home screen more similar to iOS, where the apps are all there and others, like me, prefer that there is a drawer with all the apps, allowing greater control over the organization of the home screen.

Em home screen and locked screen in the settings, the first option we have there is the home screen type. By tapping on the option, you will be able to choose between the drawer mode or the Default mode. It is simple to change and is to the taste of the customer.

Customize how apps will be organized on the home screen of realme smartphones

Change home screen layout

In addition to the home screen style, which focuses on how apps are organized on the home screen, we can also change the layout this screen, that is, change the number of squares spread out, allowing more apps to fit on the same screen, in addition to the widgets.

I particularly like the layout 6×5 for allowing me a good amount of apps at the bottom of the home screen and, mainly, for finding it beautiful. To change this, there are two ways: you can tap and hold an empty space on the home screen and then go to layout or go to system settings in the tab home screen and locked screen. The fourth option will be to layouts from the home screen.

The home screen of realme smartphones can have its own custom layout so that you can arrange your apps and widgets in the way you find most interesting
The layout is how the apps will be on the home screen of your smartphone.

Double tap the screen to unlock and lock the screen

With the screen locked, by double tapping the screen, you turn the screen on or off quickly and conveniently on smartphones really

This is a very useful feature for times when discomfort or laziness speaks louder. With this function active, instead of pressing the power button, you simply give two quick taps on the screen for it to light up and repeat the process for it to turn off.

It may seem like a silly feature, but once you get used to it, you'll never want to turn it off again, as it will make your life a lot easier when you just need to see a notification or the time.

To activate this feature, we need to go to the smartphone settings again in the tab home screen and locked screen. On the part of locked screen you will find the option double tap the screen to enable/disable. Once this is done, the feature will be ready to use.

Double tap the screen to lock the smartphone

This function is practically an extension of the previous one. The difference is in the way we use each one. The previous tip focuses only on the gesture on the locked screen for you to see a notification, the time or simply make your life easier.

This other function is for you to be able to lock the smartphone outside the lock screen without having to use the power button. The only rule in this case is that you can erase the screen with this gesture only on the home screen, after all in apps you don't have “empty spaces”.

To activate this feature, we will go back to the same location as in the previous tip, but instead of going down there, look for double tap to lock in the first tab, called home screen. By activating this, you will already be able to enjoy the feature and just like the previous one, when you get used to it, you will end up using it all the time.

With the double-tap function on the home screen. You really lock your smartphone without having to press the power button

Change the speed of system animations

Another trick for you who like to style. This speed change won't affect how you use the device, but it can give a feeling of increased speed in faster animations and, of course, the opposite feeling in slower animations.

Although it does change the speed of the animations, it's not like in slow mode the animations cause horrible eye discomfort or anything like that. It's just something a little slower to give a Tchan. To change this, let's go back to the settings of home screen and app animation speed you can set between three options: fast, medium and slow.

  • By changing this setting, you may have a different feeling when opening and closing system apps realme

Lift the screen to activate it

Returning perhaps for the last time to the lock screen settings, with this feature you will easily be able to see the time or a notification just by lifting your smartphone screen. This is one more feature that fits those functions that are not mandatory, but are great for a slacker.

In the locked screen settings, swipe the screen until you find the option raise to activate. Ready, the feature will already be active and you can enjoy it.

With this feature you can actually activate your smartphone screen just by lifting the screen.

Automatic dark mode

Dark mode has taken over all systems these days. This is far from a problem and in the case of smartphones we have some details in the settings that not everyone knows. In addition to being able to activate this mode, did you know that you can program your smartphone to go into dark mode automatically at a set time?

In your screen brightness settings realme 9 Pro +, the first configuration we have is exactly this one about light mode and dark mode. The second option, however, is called automatic switching. If you activate it, you can choose between “From Dusk Till Dawn“, where the system will make the system bright during the day and dark at dusk. The other option, “custom”, allows you to define the time each mode will work.

Configure notification badges

With this function active, you will be able to know if you have any notifications from that app directly from the home screen. You can choose from a few options like numerous, pontine, number or point or else just not show anything.

I particularly like this function, but I believe it can be a problem for those who are bothered by icons and numbers everywhere, forcing you to open apps to see what's pending in each one.

Anyway, to be able to configure this you will need to go into the settings of the realme 9 pro + on the flap notification and status bar. As soon as you enter this tab, you will come across the emblems configuration. By touching it, you can decide what you like best.

  • In realme ui you can configure how you prefer to see app notification badges

Customize the status bar

This has to be one of my favorites and perhaps one of the most unique things about smartphones from realme. In other manufacturers, what we are able to do, most of the time, is change the way notifications appear on top or in the shape of the battery icon.

In addition to the conventional styles and battery level, here we can define how the hours will appear and, better than that, what will appear at the top of the status bar. Let's say you don't like the alarm icon bothering you up there, you can just turn it off and that's it, you're left with a cleaner status bar.

To customize your status bar, go to settings notification and status bar and in the second option you will find the tab status bar, where you can edit everything as you see fit.

application lock

To increase the security of apps with sensitive data like banks, why not block apps? In the privacy area of really UI you find the resource called app lock and when you enter it, you will be taken to an area to configure the apps you would like to block.

This lock will make the apps chosen by you require a password to be accessed. This password is different from the password you use to unlock your smartphone, but in this case you can use the fingerprint sensor to access apps as well.

In the resource settings you can also choose from when the app will be blocked. The list of available apps will depend on what you have installed, but it is interesting to point out that the lock works even on apps that already have a password, so in these cases it would be like a second security phase.

To increase security on your smartphone, you can lock your apps with a second password

hide apps

In the same footprint as app blocking, really UI It has the option to hide apps from the apps list. In addition to requiring a password and not allowing the use of the fingerprint sensor to do so, these apps will be hidden in a folder where they can only be accessed through a code in the calling app.

I loved this function, but I need to warn you that it is not 100% accurate. Apps are actually hidden and require a password. The problem is that from the moment you activate it, every time you unlock your smartphone, a notification in the form of a pop-up will appear on the screen, indicating that there is a folder with hidden apps, going completely against the purpose of the function.

Anyway, if you want to take the test, you will have to go to the smartphone's privacy settings and there you will find the function hide apps and then just follow the system's own step by step.

  • By hiding your realme apps, you gain another layer of security
  • By hiding your realme apps, you gain another layer of security

emergency call

Few people know or use this feature, but smartphones have an exclusive area for emergency situations. When pressing the power button 5 times in a row, a menu called emergency will be activated.

In the case of realme 9 Pro +, we already have the police, ambulance and fire numbers, in addition to being able to activate an alarm and an SOS flashlight. In the complete emergency settings, you can also add up to 3 emergency contacts, medical information and set details such as messages and automatic calls in case of an emergency.

Super battery saver mode

It's not every day that we manage to make the smartphone battery last the way we'd like, is it? It's at these times that super battery saving is welcome. In this mode, the smartphone system limits the performance and use of apps, focusing only on what is necessary for its survival, making it have a much longer battery life.

In the case of realme, when in this mode, it limits the home screen to 6 apps and focuses on the cleanest possible interface, without notifications and other details that can drain battery. To activate this mode, you can go to the smartphone's battery settings or look for it in the quick settings functions.

app cloner

Have you ever thought about using two WhatsApp or Telegram accounts on the same smartphone? With the app cloner you can. Even if you have a second SIM or another account on the same device, by default smartphones do not allow you to use both accounts at the same time and that is where the app cloner feature comes in.

in the systems of realme, we can clone the following apps: Facebook, Google Pay, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, Twitter e WhatsApp. With this you'll have twice as many notifications, but you'll also be able to better control your apps and conversations, especially if you need to use a personal and a business account, for example.

The function is found in the smartphone's application settings and just tap activate next to the desired app to create a clone app in your app list. This new app will have a different symbol and allow you to rename it.

  • Menu to activate the app cloner, feature to have two instagram accounts on the same smartphone, for example
  • Menu to activate the app cloner, feature to have two instagram accounts on the same smartphone, for example

Split screen

Being able to split the screen is something that is already present in Android it's been a while and although it's not always so attractive because of the size of the screen, it can be very useful when copying information or doing math. It can be easily activated on most smartphones via the button recent where we can find the function about each app.

In the case of realme, we have a few possible uses for the function. We can drag three fingers from bottom to top, for example, and we'll already make that app stay in split screen mode, but we can also open the recent apps menu and look for the function.

Finally, when we have the smart sidebar enabled (I'll get to it shortly), we can simply tap and hold on one of the apps in that sidebar and drag it out so it's split-screen. There are several possibilities and it's up to you to get used to it and see if it's worth it or not. It's a feature that works best on tablets, but can still be useful on smartphones.

  • Split screen, for using more than one app at the same time
  • Split screen, for using more than one app at the same time

flexible windows

Floating windows are great ways to work with multitasking and it's great for chat apps that often don't need to be closed and sitting there in the corner of the screen makes a lot more sense.

To enable and configure flexible windows on smartphones realme, go to special features in the device settings and go to the first option. On this screen, in addition to several tutorials of the function, the user can also define a mode without windows buttons and another option for you to remove flexible windows during the game.

Despite being simple and very specific, this is a resource that, if used intelligently, can make your day-to-day life easier.

  • Flexible windows serve to put an app on hold while you do other activities on your smartphone really
  • Flexible windows serve to put an app on hold while you do other activities on your smartphone really

Smart sidebar

The smart sidebar is basically the function edge that we have already seen on smartphones from Samsung since Galaxy S6 or even more. When activated, you can choose the location of this bar and, when you pull it, you'll have a list of apps for quick access, without having to always go back to the smartphone's home screen.

In the sidebar settings you can define whether you want to see the name of the apps in the bar or just their icon, in addition to defining the location of the bar on the screen, its transparency and defining whether or not it will be hidden during a game or video.

The downside of this sidebar of realme is that it doesn't allow you to customize which apps will be in it, forcing you to use only what comes pre-defined, which for me is pretty bad. To access the feature, just go to the special features in the settings.

  • The smart sidebar serves to speed up access to some system apps
  • The smart sidebar serves to speed up access to some system apps

space for children

If you have children at home or for some reason you are going to leave a child playing or watching something on your smartphone realme, know that it has a mode called space for children. Also found in the special features of the device, you define the apps that will be available in this mode and as long as you don't log out with your password, no one will have access to any other device's features.

In the kids' corner, only the apps you choose can be used

simple mode

Simple mode, as its name implies, simplifies the entire system for ease of use. It makes the text bigger and leaves the device use mode by buttons, if you are using the gestures function. In addition, all apps are on the home screen, but organized in folders, so you can find them quickly and efficiently.

It can be found in the settings of special features and is suitable for people who need a more simplified system or for those who do not know this world of smartphones very well.

  • Simple mode makes the system easier to use by increasing the font size and increasing the volume

device controls

This is one of the coolest features that Android 12 has brought to smartphones. With it, you gain access to an exclusive area in the system for quick control of smart devices scattered around the house, such as smart lamps, Google Home, sensors and many others.

In my use, I only have a light bulb and a Google Chromecast configured, but if you already have a completely automated house, you can have faster control directly through smartphone shortcuts.

on smartphones from realme, there are two ways to access the controls screen: the first is to open the quick controls by pulling the notification bar or holding the power button until the pop-up with the information appears. The controls will be based on the system you use to manage your “virtual home”, such as Home, Alexa and even Realme Link.

Bedtime mode

As interesting as it is to enjoy smartphone features, bedtime is sacred. In that same thought, the latest versions of Android have brought the bedtime mode which activates not only the mode Do not disturb, but also other features so you can sleep peacefully without worrying about smartphone notifications.

O bedtime mode can be found in the settings digital wellness and parental control. In the mode settings in realme 9 Pro +, we have two options for using it: use this mode with a scheduled time, in which you configure the days and time you want it activated, or just leave the device charging within a time defined by you.

Also, if you scroll down to the customization part, you can choose whether the mode do not disturb will be activated or not, if the device will have the screen in grayscale and if the always on display will be deactivated during time to sleep.

  • Bedtime mode is great for you to relax and be notification-free

Gestures with the screen off

A very cool thing that is present in the operating system of realme are the screen off gestures. Can be activated in gestures and movements nose system settings, screen off gestures allow you to access some device functions without having to turn on the screen.

By default, the main gestures involve tapping the screen twice to turn on and off, drawing an “O” to open the camera, a “V” to turn the flashlight on and off, in addition to being able to control the music by drawing “ II” with two fingers to pause or play the song and “<” or “>” to go back or forward a song.

In addition to these, if you go to add gesture, you can customize some more designs such as the “W”, “M”, “^” or the action of swiping in each of the directions. Regardless of which gesture you choose, you can choose between the functions unlock, Call or else open an app.

With the gestures with the screen off, you can "create" shortcuts for some functions of your realme

Make prints just by touching the screen

In the settings of realme 9 Pro + we can find a specific tab for the screenshots, in the area of system settings. On this screen we can configure all related to prints, among them the function of making a print just by touching the screen.

The first option highlighted in this area involves the print by swiping down with 3 fingers, this one that works in a very interesting and practical way, although it is not used much. The second option is the main one of the topic and again with 3 fingers, by touching and holding the screen, we can take a print and already choose the region of the screen that we want this print.

Finally, we have the conventional print using the power button along with the volume down and some tutorials to teach the correct way to use each of these gestures. At the end of the screenshots page, you can define some more details related to how the screenshots will behave on your smartphone. really.
