Understand the changes that will come to the X app, the network that will replace Twitter

When and how did the idea for X come about?

Have you heard of the Chinese app WeChat? It brings together several solutions on a single platform, useful for transferring money, exchanging messages, minigames, ordering food for delivery, paying bills, among other functions. On the other side of the world, the idea for the app X, which comes from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is very similar to the Chinese app. There was even a logo idea for the site:

First conceived in 1999, he wanted X to be a solution for shopping, posting thoughts, watching videos, etc. However, his initiative did not turn out to be what he had hoped, and in June 2001 he was sold to the company Infinity, becoming the PayPal at that same time. This event gave rise to a payment system so consolidated that, in July 2015, PayPal became independent.

However, the investor who ended up with the bluebird published, on July 10, 2017, that he had regained ownership of the site X.com. In this way, PayPal no longer holds the right to the site, according to what Musk said in his profile on Twitter. His satisfaction was explicit in the post.

What happens now that Twitter switches to app X?

The main change coming to the social network will mainly include the use of artificial intelligence in various functions that the Twitter already available. In addition to the stronger arrival of AI, the X application will have updates that will allow payments to be made through it, to encourage the purchase and acquisition of goods, services and other commercial transactions.

There is no precise information on how AI solutions will be present in the X app. However, given the growth of the newly created Twitter rival, the Threads (which reached 100 million users in the first five days of launch), the idea of ​​putting functions for financial exchanges may sound attractive and generate greater competitiveness with Meta.

Regarding the changes that will be part of the payment methods on X, it is expected that it will be possible to be paid for visits to your profile, without the need for a subscription button. Still, there is an expectation to have a search function in publications favored by the user and emails with the content of posts favourites, which would be sent in a newsletter format. On platform security, Musk intends to make punishments more explicit and hopes to have more accessible systems for complaints.

Legal battles over brand X

Arriving with banking and commercial solutions for the Twitter will demand from Musk fight for the right to the brand. Even after 'killing the bird', there are great chances that he will still face the dominance of ecosystem about brand X, which it owns. What makes this scenario worse is that the owner of the software company that created the system Windows, Bill Gates, does not have a good relationship with Musk.

Asked about the status of the letter dispute, Andres Guadamuz, a researcher in intellectual property law at the University of Sussex, told the Yahoo! Other specialists believe that the case must be complicated, because it is only a letter representing a commercial property.

Microsoft has owned X since at least 2003. Meta, on the other hand, can also create another problem regarding ownership of the brand, given that, in 2019, it registered a logo with the letter, with the colors blue and black. Furthermore, the company responsible for Threads and other apps like WhatsApp, is also involved in a dispute against the MetaCapital and MetaX, which act in investment advisory and marketing, respectively, precisely because of their new name, which replaced the former Facebook.
