O Facebook has been rehearsing the arrival of GIFs on the social network since December last year. Since then, some people can post and comment with the animated format. Now, they started to support them natively and released the option to more users.
Depending on your connection speed, GIFs run automatically, it is not necessary to click on them as before. To post the animations, you just need to link a GIF to your post and Facebook will embed the animation automatically.
It is not yet possible to send the files directly to the social network; if you try the file will be converted to a still image. That is, you need to post the link of GIFs stored on other websites, like Tumblr, Imgur or even Google+.
Facebook converts the GIF in a video without sound, which you click to stop the animation. This method reduces the file size. The display works on both desktop and mobile, but there is a limitation: the publication of GIFs only works for personal profiles, pages cannot use yet.
The news is still being released gradually for all users, so you may not have been considered yet. If you want to see some GIFs on Facebook, you can check out this group.
