Galaxy Watch promises more than 80 hours of autonomy
Goodbye Samsung Gear, hello Galaxy Watch. With a new brand and new models, the Korean giant tries to reboot its smart watch with the aim of gaining a bigger share of the market currently dominated by Apple. And the news is good: connectivity via cellular network, wireless charging, Super AMOLED screen and resistance to dives of up to 5 atmospheres (about 40 meters deep).
There are two models, one 46mm in silver and a smaller one (42mm) in rose gold. Both will be available in the US and South Korea in late August for $349,99 and $329,99. Contrary to rumors that have circulated recently, the Watch hasn't swapped Samsung's proprietary Tizen system for Google's WearOS.
Visually, the Watch is very similar to the Gear. It is round and its outer ring allows you to walk through the interface functions. Samsung promises more than 80 hours of battery life in normal use on the larger model.
O Samsung Galaxy Watch brings some features related to well-being and health, such as a heart monitor that detects when your heart is beating faster and invites you to relax. It automatically detects whether you are running, swimming or cycling, and it can be adjusted to track 39 different physical activities. It is also capable of monitoring the quality of your sleep as long as you sleep wearing your watch.
According to a report by market research firm Canalys, Samsung had 12,8% of the wearables market last year while Apple dominated about 53% of it.
