the filmmaker George Lucas whether digitally resurrect Hollywood stars and assemble them into new films. The project was revealed by a former collaborator of Lucas, the British actor and director Mel Smith, who assured that the creator of Star Wars "bought the film rights of dead movie stars".

“We would see feature films where Orson Welles and Barbara Stanwyck would appear alongside today's stars,” commented Smith, who criticized Lucas for using computer technology in his projects. “George is obsessed with it and has used it a lot in his last two Star Wars movies. I think the images were horrendous,” said Smith, who in 1994 directed Murder on WBN Radio, a comedy written by Lucas.

“The film was a disaster. George doesn't understand comedy," said Smith, who has also spearheaded projects such as A Conquistador (1989), with Emma Thompson and Jeff Goldblum, and Mr. Bean (1997), with Rowan Atkinson.
