Os GIFs, as well as emojis and stickers, are part of our language in the digital environment to express emotions. On the internet, a GIF can be worth a thousand words, so the continuous use of certain animated images indicates the most shared feelings among users. In order to highlight these cultural trends, the GIPHY released the list of most used GIFs in 2021!
The world's largest GIF platform explains that the approach to defining core content was different this year.
“While still primarily driven by metrics, extra emphasis has been placed on curating the list to show items from daily searches that are not as relevant. This allowed us to focus on content that derived its popularity from cultural and emotional spikes rather than trending search terms (GIPHY users’ demand for “happy birthday” and “good morning” GIFs knows no bounds). In doing so, we know that we are providing insights that really speak to the evolution of our users' moods over the past year.”
