The American site VentureBeat has just disclosed that Google has acquired Twitch, owner of the well-known platform that allows players to stream and watch games live over the internet.
Rumors that Google would be interested in Twitch are old, and have been around since at least May of this year. However, the negotiations always came up against the negotiation values. Now, however, the parties are right, if VentureBeat's sources are indeed correct.
There is still no official confirmation of the deal or the price, but sources guarantee that it is a closed deal and that Twitch will be integrated with YouTube very soon.
San Francisco-based Twitch has grown rapidly in recent years, thanks to integration with platforms such as PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4, accounting for 1,35% of all Internet traffic. The company has over 50 million active users and around 1 million who stream their games every month. To give you an idea of the company's growth, in June 2011 there were only 3,2 million monthly users.
