O Gemini for Home arrives to replace the old one Google Assistant on smart speakers and displays. The system offers 10 new, more human-like voices with realistic intonation and rhythm. It also uses real-time information to provide contextual and up-to-date responses. Furthermore, Gemini maintains the context of conversations, enabling ongoing dialogue without the need for repeating information. Here are its three main areas of use:

  • Media: searches for music, movies, and podcasts based on vague descriptions, like a natural conversation with a friend.
  • Home control: understands location context and executes complex requests, such as “turn off all lights except the ones in the office.”
  • Domestic coordination: interprets intentions for lists, calendars, reminders, and timers, automatically adding ingredients to shopping lists or calculating recipe preparation times.

It also makes cameras, doorbells, and the Google Home app smarter, enabling more natural conversations and a deeper understanding of what's happening at home, eliminating the rigid, specific commands we're used to. Gemini transforms these into true AI devices, offering:

  • Full alerts: receiving detailed descriptions in the video history, to know exactly what happened.
  • Home Brief: automatically summarizes the day's most important events into short clips, allowing you to track events such as the arrival of deliveries.
  • Ask Home: locates specific clips with natural language, answering questions like “What time did the kids get home?” or “Are my doors locked?”

Also, with the Gemini Live, it is possible to have free conversations, brainstorming or planning daily tasks. Just say: “Hey Google, let's talk” to start a dialogue, without having to repeat the activation word.

The resources of Gemini for Home will be initially made available in the United States, to Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland e Australia, reaching other regions in the early 2026The system will begin integrating with existing smart speakers and displays via an early access program in late October.

To accompany the Gemini for Home, Google Home app (for Android e iPhone) was rebuilt with three main objectives: to be more Speed, trustworthy e itineraryFor users with cameras, live view now loads 30% faster, with 40% fewer playback stutters, even on older devices. Clip previews are instantaneous, and scrolling through video history is much smoother, with up to six times the frame rate.

Speaking of the layout, the app is organized into three tabs, making it easier to access the main areas of the house:

  • Home Tab: overview, with gestures that allow you to easily navigate between Favorites, all devices and dashboards dedicated.
  • Activity Tab: single history of all home events, including third-party devices, with the Home Brief, which provides a quick summary of the day.
  • Automations Tab: carousel with future automations and a rebuilt editor to create one-off or conditional routines, on both iOS and Android.

The camera experience has also been improved. Notifications now display animated previews, and simple gestures allow you to quickly navigate through your history, with clear context for events, such as "Robin walking with flowers" instead of just "person detected."

O Ask Home is now available in the app header, allowing you to quickly find devices, automations, or clips, as well as control multiple devices or create complex automations using only natural language.

The updates of the new Google Home app are now available globally.
