GoPro's 20 Years of Existence
The presentation event of the new cameras was marked by a brief reminder of the entire legacy of the brand in these 20 years of operation. Before having the idea of opening the company in 2022, Nick Woodman was a surfer and the company gradually grew until it became the great reference in action cameras we know today.
The CEO and founder of GoPro appeared at the presentation event to remind that the three launches show everything the company has always wanted to show: design, technology, good user experience and a price that is in line with the benefits delivered.
Once again, the service GoPro subscription was mentioned at the event to reinforce that the company wants to make this a real trend; in practice, in addition to having access to exclusive benefits and discounts, camera owners have access to all paid features of the editing application Quik (which belongs to GoPro), as well as unlimited cloud storage at maximum quality.
Showmetech has already had the opportunity to talk to Nick Woodman and you can check all the details of this chat in our special article.
The new sensor in the GoPro HERO11 line
The 2022 update brings interesting news compared to the 2021 model. The biggest one is that due to the new sensor, it is possible to capture more light and a wider field of view compared to what was placed by GoPro in previous years. The aperture is 1/1,9″.
The company confirms that the new cameras can now capture over a billion colors in 10-bit content. The resolution is one of the highlights: the three new cameras can record video in 5,3K quality (at 60 fps).
Regarding photos, it was confirmed that the HERO11 Black and the Mini variant take photos at 27 MP, a quality that “delivers images as true as what we see in real life”, highlights the company. GoPro. It will also be possible to record videos in 4K quality at 120 fps and 2,7K at 240 fps.
Still talking about the quality gains in relation to what was launched by the camera company in the past, the new sensor present in the line GoPro HERO11 delivers 64x the color captured in 10-bit video – the GoPro HERO10 for example, it captured “only” 16,7 million colors in 8 bits – and now, it will be possible to have access to videos and photos with a quality that was usually only seen on bulkier devices.
Another gain is the 8:9 aspect ratio that allows better creation of content in a vertical format. After submitting everything to the app Quik, GoPro points out that it is easier to edit content for the TikTok e Social media coordinator within the 9:16 ratio. But cinematic formats in 16:9 aspect ratio for YouTube will also be easily created and the company remembers that the loss of quality will not happen. Regardless of the proportion that the content has.
The functionality HyperView, which is practically a hallmark of cameras HERO, is still present in the new line that won three variants. In practice, through the 16:9 aspect ratio field of view, it is possible to have a better capture of first-person content; regardless of whether you are surfing, skiing, motorcycle riding or other activities. Of course, in addition to being resistant, the new cameras in the line GoPro HERO11 They are waterproof and have:
- HyperSmooth 5.0: This is the ideal optical stability technology for anyone who likes to record every step of their adventures. GoPro guarantees that even if the camera is rotated 360º, the video will not be affected;
- Three new time-lapse patterns for capturing content at night, ideal for those who want to take photos and videos capturing starry skies and other elements;
- Time Warp 3.0 with 5,3K capture: an impressive 91% jump in resolution over 4K, and a whopping 665% more than 1080p;
- Two control modes: the configuration Easy It is aimed at those who don't know much about photography and all changes are made by the system. Pro, on the other hand, is aimed at those who have more knowledge on the subject and unlocks all functions to be operated manually;
- Enduro Battery Support: ideal for those who visit colder regions or with temperatures below average, this type of battery allows a gain of 38% in relation to traditional models and is included in the three models of the line. GoPro HERO11.
The new GoPro cameras of 2022

They have the same sensor and functionality, but their focus and size are different. Despite the novelties in sensors and variants, the processor GP 2, present in HERO10 Black, is present in the three GoPro HERO11.

Aimed at those who want to pay little for an action camera, the model records in the same video qualities and takes photos in the same quality as the traditional variant, but it had some changes that made the GoPro managed to lower the price.
