Homecoming brings more mysteries in new season on Amazon Prime Video

A série Homecoming is the adaptation of a Espaitec's of the same name, created by the authors Eli Horowitz e Micah Bloomberg. The podcast, launched in 2016, had an admirable voice talent: Catherine Keener (Oscar nominee for outstanding “I want to be John Malkovich") David Schwimmer (Ross in the series Friends) to Oscar Isaac (Poe in the new trilogy Star Wars) in the main roles.

In the series that premiered on Amazon Prime in 2018 — elected by the showmetech , the one of the best of that year — who takes the lead role is none other than the Oscar winner Julia Roberts, here making his debut — finally — in a “television” role. Check out the trailer for the first season:

The series consists of 10 episodes, and all were directed by Sam esmail from the hit series Mr. Robot.

The premise: the social worker Heidi Bergman (Roberts) is hired to work at Homecoming Initiative, an installation of a corporation called Geist Group. The facility is intended to help veterans adapt to and overcome trauma during the war. Your first patient is the traumatized young man Walter Cruz (Stephan James).

However, the series, which merges two timelines, jumps to four years later, and Heidi, now working as a waitress and living with her mother, has no recollection of what happened during her work at Homecoming Initiative.

The series is absolutely incredible: from the intriguing plot, to the quality of direction and cinematography, to the performances and the growing tension that culminates in a phenomenal finale. Watch one of the most incredible scenes in the series, shot in a single take, where Heidi tries to explain her working method to her elusive boss (played by the great Bobby Cannavale).

The series received 3 nominations ao Golden Globe: best drama series, best actress (Julia Roberts) and Best Supporting Actor (Stephan James).

Homecoming: Season 2 — a new mystery

When the series was purchased by Amazon Prime, two seasons had already been ordered. However due to a scheduling conflict both of Julia Roberts as Sam Esmail, the series took a hiatus.

The creators of the original podcast of Homecoming, Bloomberg and Horowitz, were then given the green light to continue developing the series, even without these names. It was then that the new season took shape. See the teaser of 2 season:

As can be seen from the trailer, the lead actress is now Janelle Monáe.

From the trailer it is also possible to identify many things in the universe Homecoming: the facilities of Geist Group, Walter Cruz, who is still looking for answers after his participation in the Homecoming Initiative e Audrey Temple (Hong Chau), a mysterious woman who took charge of the facility at the end of the first season.

Names like the Chris Cooper (Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor for Adaptation) to Joan cusack (cowboy's voice Jessie in the Toy Story movies and countless comedies like “The Adams Family”) join the cast.

Janelle Monáe, the new protagonist of the series

In case you don't know that name, I'll make a brief and necessary introduction: Janelle Monáe is a singer cool, expressive and super talented, who appeared on the music scene in 2007, when she released her sensational EP Metropolis.

From then on, the singer became known for a sound that is a mix of R&B, Soul and experimental. She has received a total of 8 nominations for the Grammy and, even, one of these nominations was for best music video for the iconic music video “Powder“, which is part of his album “Dirty Computer”, also nominated in the Best Album of the Year category in 2018.

The clip of "Powder” is an amazing message to female empowerment:

monáe debuted in theaters in 2016 in two critically acclaimed films: Moonlight: Under the Moonlight (who won the Oscar de best movie in 2017) to Stars Beyond Time, for which he won an award, along with his co-stars, as the best cast in the Actors Guild (SAG Awards).
