A Honda today revealed a new version of its robot Asimo, incorporating new skills and robotic intelligence into this “automaton”. The biggest innovation is the ability of the Asimo to move without being directly controlled by an operator, including advanced postural balance capabilities that allow the robot to maintain its posture, with the help of its legs, if it starts to fall out of balance.

The company also demonstrated that the robot can jump with only one leg, and can run up to 9 kilometers per hour. In addition to smarter, more capable legs, as well as a 6kg reduction in weight, the Asimo now has more dexterous hands, which can be used to reproduce sign language or handle bottles and glasses. In one of the tests, a plastic cup was used, without it being crushed by the robot.

O Asimo can recognize these objects using its visual and tactile sensors.

Finally, the developers of Honda made the robot a little friendlier, giving you the ability to recognize different people, combining voice and facial recognition, even if there are several people talking in the environment.
