Huawei is back in the Brazilian smartphone market, launching foldable smartphones Mate x6 and the innovator Mate XT Ultimate Design, the world's first “trifold”. This launch marks a turnaround for the company, which had left Brazil in 2019 after US sanctions banned the use of Android and resulted in the loss of partnerships. Discover all the models.
Huawei in Brazil
In 2019 the Huawei was forced to recalculate its market route after suffering sanctions from the US. At the time, the country, under Donald Trump's leadership, accused the Chinese company of using its smartphones, services and other devices for alleged espionage for the Chinese government. Amid these suspicions, the Google, the owner of Android, has suspended its main licensing agreements with Huawei, which has caused the company to stop making the Google Play Store and Gmail available to its customers.
This caused the company to stop selling its smartphones here. It is worth remembering that the company has been in Brazil for 27 years (operating in several areas). Other devices, such as smart watches and bracelets, headphones and routers could still be purchased here. In fact, it was announced during the event that the company had become the world's number one manufacturer of smart watches, with 1 units sold.
The company has also invested in the development of its own operating system, in addition to its own chips: Harmony OS, via the EMUI interface, still uses Android code, allowing the installation of APK files manually, giving access to Android services. Google.
In parallel to this, the company also developed the Harmony OS Next, which uses its own code and does not allow the installation of application files Android. The company's biggest challenge here is to get Brazilians to buy into the idea of using a smartphone without a widely used operating system, even though the camera experience and day-to-day use are incomparable to other models.
We are very excited about the return of Huawei's premium smartphones to Brazil.

Huawei Mate X6
Design
With an official weight of 236 grams, the Huawei Mate X6 arrives in Brazil in colors Nebula Red, Black e Nebula Gray as the first major competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold6, but the model will also compete for market leadership with the Galaxy z fold7, which is scheduled to be released now, in July.
When unfolded, it is only 4,6 millimeters thick; and when folded, it is 9,9 millimeters thick. The body of the device is made of aluminum, and its back is made of vegan leather, also called eco-leather.
In terms of durability, the model also has IPX8 certification, which guarantees operation for up to 30 minutes in up to two meters of water. The device is not dust resistant, but it has good points for water resistance, so we will see how it will be used on a daily basis.
It is worth mentioning the fingerprint reader on the side for simplified access to the system, in addition to being another layer of security.
Screens (external and internal)
Moving on to the displays, the largest screen, when the device is open, measures 7,93 inches. An OLED type, the same screen also has a refresh rate of 120Hz, in addition to displaying 1 billion colors and also having a peak brightness of 1.800 nits. The larger screen also has QHD resolution (2440×2400).
When we look at the external screen, it stands out: at 6,45 inches, it has FHD+ resolution (1080×2440), 120 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2.500 nits. The external screen has a glass Kunlun 2, developed by Huawei, and which it says is resistant to drops and scratches compared to regular glass.
Processor
In addition to working on its own operating system, Huawei has a division to have its own processors. That said, one of the specifications of the Mate X6 is the chip Kirin 9020, with eight-core architecture. This model is the direct competitor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen3, launched at the end of 2023 and present in devices launched the following year, such as the Galaxy S24 and Xiaomi 14.
The processor, also present in the Huawei Mate 70 Pro +, stands out for running high-performance games without having to put in any effort. The company also mentions that it has artificial intelligence resources that learn over time to deliver a better everyday experience.
The same processor also has a 5G modem and Wi-Fi 5 point (dual-band, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) for better connections to wireless networks. For those who like to use Bluetooth devices, there is a Bluetooth 5.2 antenna, which delivers long range and good quality audio.
The device also features NFC for contactless payments.
System and interface
As we said earlier, Huawei is still prohibited from using Android in the same way that manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola and Xiaomi do, but this is not a big problem.
The Mate X6 arrives in Brazil with the Harmony OS 4.3, also called EMUI 15, an operating system that still uses the Android codebase and still allows the installation of APK files, even if manually. This opens the door to the installation of Google applications and here, the sky is the limit, but it is worth remembering that the entire process needs to be done by the buyer.
Huawei highlighted the multitasking mode that allows three apps to run at the same time and, when necessary, it will be possible to switch between them without crashing. See the example below:
Cameras
The Huawei Mate X6’s cameras offer a versatile and powerful set of cameras for photography and video. The main system on the back is made up of three high-resolution lenses. The main lens, a 50 MP wide-angle lens, ensures sharp and detailed photos, with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and optical image stabilization (OIS) for stable results even when moving.
Complementing the main camera, the Mate X6 includes an impressive 48MP periscope telephoto lens, which also features PDAF and OIS, as well as offering a 4x optical zoom for capturing details at a distance with clarity.
For wide landscapes and group shots, the 40MP ultrawide lens with PDAF provides an expanded field of view. The package is enhanced with features such as Laser AF, color spectrum sensor, LED flash, panorama and HDR, ensuring flexibility in various lighting conditions.
In terms of video recording, the Huawei Mate X6 supports 4K and 1080p filming with the main camera, incorporating HDR, electronic stabilization (gyro-EIS), optical stabilization (OIS) and the Vivid HDR for videos with vibrant colors and enhanced details.
For selfies and video calls, the device has two 8 MP front cameras, both wide-angle, which also offer HDR and panorama features, and are capable of recording videos in 4K and 1080p.
Battery and charging
The Huawei Mate X6 comes equipped with a lithium-ion silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery with a capacity of 5110 mAh. Regarding charging, the device supports:
- Wired Reverse Charging: 5W
- Wired Charging: 66W
- Wireless Charging: 50W
- Wireless Reverse Charging: 7.5W
Huawei, as other companies are doing, ships the USB-C cable and the 66W power supply in the model's box.
Price and availability
The new foldable smartphone arrives in Brazil today, June 17, for the modest price of 22.999 BRL. For comparison, its main competitor, the Galaxy z fold6, began to be sold in Brazil in July last year from 13.799 BRL.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design
Design
O Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design features an innovative and premium design. With an official weight of 298 grams, it stands out for its ability to unfold into a much larger screen. When fully unfolded, the device has a remarkably thin 4,8 millimeters thick – the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. When folded, it measures 12,8 millimeters thick. And it will be released in two colors: Red and black.
The body of the device is constructed with high-quality materials, including aluminum, and its back is covered in vegan leather, also known as eco-leather, giving it a sophisticated touch and a comfortable grip. In terms of durability, the Mate XT Ultimate Design has IPX8 certification, as well as the Huawei Mate X6, ensuring its water resistance and ability to function for up to 30 minutes in up to two meters of water. However, it is important to note that the device does not have official dust resistance.
For added convenience and security, the fingerprint reader is conveniently located on the side of the device, allowing quick and simplified access to the system.
Screens (external and internal)
Despite being advertised as the world's most versatile smartphone, or trifold, the model is actually a device with a screen that folds into three parts. The external screen, which works independently, measures 6,4 inches and has FHD+ resolution.
When fully open, the device measures 10,2 inches, displaying images and videos in 3K resolution. It is also possible to use the model with two folds, and in this mode, it has a 7,9-inch screen, displaying images in 2K resolution. See all the modes in this video below:
The largest screen on the three-screen foldable Huawei is 50,8 mm thick, thinner than the screen seen on the iPad Mini, giving the sensation of using a tablet that can be folded and placed in your pocket. It is an interesting solution for those who give presentations, need to read/sign documents and even create content for the internet.
Processor
The processor is the same as the variant launched in China: it has the Kirin 9010, with seven-nanometer architecture and eight cores. This processor is a direct competitor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and also the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, present in the entire Galaxy S22 line, in the Xiaomi 12 line and in the Realme GT 2 Pro.
The Kirin 9010 was introduced in the Huawei Pura 70 series, including the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro+, and Pura 70 Ultra, and is the main processor of these devices. It is a crucial chipset for Huawei's strategy of reducing its reliance on external chip suppliers.
While not the leader in pure performance, the Kirin 9010 is optimized by Huawei to deliver a smooth and efficient user experience, benefiting from Huawei's vertical integration (hardware and software).
It supports 5G connectivity (via Balong 5000 modem), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and has features like the Maleoon 910 GPU and an image signal processor (ISP) for photography. It is capable of 4K video recording and playback at 60 FPS.
System and interface
The device arrives in Brazil with Harmony OS, the same as the first foldable device we mentioned in the article. The idea here is for Brazil to have a good adoption of this operating system, in the same way that China did.
During today's event, the company highlighted that its operating system is ready to be launched as independent and intelligent, with AI capabilities that adapt over time.
O Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, being a premium device running HarmonyOS and equipped with the Kirin 9010 (which has a dedicated NPU), incorporates several artificial intelligence functionalities to enhance the user experience.
