Here's what to do when iCloud isn't syncing, including account settings, internet, storage, and iPhone configuration.

Keeping your files in the cloud is a matter of practicality and security. When you choose to store them in iCloud, they will be synced between your iPhone, iPad, PC e Mac, and will be kept in case your cell phone or laptop is lost – or worse, stolen. The problem is when iCloud does not sync the files, and you will miss all the benefits of having the files in cloud storage.

Problems like photos not uploading to the cloud and duplicate files between devices cause headaches and frustration – after all, everything should be working correctly. To solve these problems, we bring you some tips for you to adjust your devices when iCloud does not sync.

Keep the software up to date

That's the mantra of all cellphone and computer manufacturers: always have the latest version of the operating system and applications installed on your devices. Here we are talking about Apple , known for providing extended support of its operating systems for older devices – the current iOS 15 supports all iPhones released since iPhone 6s, 2015. Therefore, make sure your operating systems and applications linked to iCloud are up to date.

Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

Our Settings, select General > Software Update. Check if any updates are available, and if so, install them. Take the opportunity to enable automatic updates.

Update iCloud for Windows

O iCloud for Windows is an with which can be downloaded from Microsoft Store. Through it, you have access to your files and information stored in the Apple cloud. To verify that iCloud is up to date, go to Microsoft Store and select the Library, there you can ask to update the applications on your computer.

Check that the date and time are correct

One of the reasons why the iCloud not syncing is a difference between the date and time on your smartphone or computer, and the date and time on Apple's servers. When this happens, it is possible that your device has the date and time manually set, leading to possible errors.

Please correct your device's date and time to get it back in sync and preferably enable automatic date and time update so this error doesn't happen again.

iCloud does not sync without internet connection

O iCloud is a cloud service, and to work properly, your iPhone, iPad or computer must be properly connected to the internet. If you notice that iCloud doesn't sync, check that the internet is actually working – an accidental tap on airplane mode is enough to cause the internet to stop working.

If you are on a wi-fi connection, switch to the mobile data network and see if the error persists – and the opposite is also valid. If the problem is with the wi-fi, seek information about connection failures with your carrier - you can start by turning the modem off and on to see if the connection comes back.

Check iCloud Service Status

Cloud services rely on a large infrastructure of remote servers and connections for data to reach you. The reliability of these services is high, but problems can happen – just remember the blackout that Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp suffered in October of last year.

To find out if iCloud is working properly, just go to the Apple System Status page, which shows the working status of all systems and services provided by the company. When opening the page, ideally, all systems are marked in green. What is not in green is experiencing technical difficulties.

Do all devices use the same account?

In order for iCloud to correctly sync files and information between devices, there is a basic premise: all devices must be connected to the same account. It may seem strange to have to remember this requirement, but it can happen that the same user has different Apple IDs for different devices – think about the person who forgot their account password on the iPhone and created another account to use on the iPad.

To make sure this isn't one of the reasons why iCloud doesn't sync files, make sure the same account is used on your devices.

Check iCloud Account on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Go in Settings, select your name (first option in the Settings menu) and in the new window that opens check your iCloud account on this device.

If it's not the correct account, scroll down to the bottom and select End Session. After that, enter the correct Apple ID credentials.

Correctly configure synced items

By default, iCloud keeps all information between your iPhone, iPad, and computer, such as photos, contacts, calendar, and notes, in sync. However, at some point you may have selected for some of these settings not to be synced on any of your devices, and so iCloud does not sync everything as it should. To do so, it is necessary to verify that all applications are being synchronized on each device:

iCloud Setup on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Em Settings, select your name (first option in the Settings menu) and in the new window that opens select iCloud. The next window shows the storage in your iCloud account, as well as all the sharing and syncing settings. Make sure they're all checked – or keep items you don't need out of sync.

Full storage

A common cause where the iCloud does not sync is simply the lack of storage space in the cloud of the Apple . The iCloud free plan offers only 5 GB of space, which can be unfeasible for the current demands of space required with the production of photos and videos on smartphones - it is worth remembering that a photo taken in the Apple ProRAW of uncompressed images, present in the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, occupies 25 MB of storage, equivalent to 8 photos compressed in JPG.

If your case is full storage, Apple offers the iCloud +, subscription plan that offers more cloud storage space. The plan allows you to share extra storage with up to 5 family members, and is available in three options:

  • 50 GB: 3,50 BRL
  • 200 GB: 10,90 BRL
  • 2TB: 34,90 BRL

Another service that Apple offers is the Apple one, which increases iCloud space and provides access to Apple services. The available plans are:

  • Individual (R$ 26,50): iCloud+ with 50 GB, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and Apple tv+
  • Family (R$ 37,90): iCloud+ with 200 GB, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and Apple tv+
  • Premium (R$ 69,50): iCloud+ with 2 TB, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple tv+ and Apple Fitness+

Subscribing to the service can be done directly on the website Apple one. It is worth remembering that the plans Family e Premium allow sharing all services with up to 5 family members.
