Instagram copies BeReal and Twitter in new platform features

Yesterday (13) o Instagram released some news that the platform is implementing to users. Among the new additions are the Notes, tool to share a type of “status” for 24 hours in the DMs tab; you spontaneous stories, a feature that promises to bring more raw captures; group profiles, which will work as a collective feed; and the collaborative collections, to save publications also collectively. There was still an improvement in Your turn, with the addition of “pass it on”. Understand all the news!

By the way, expressing yourself in Stories is apparently something important on Instagram — and there's no shortage of ways to do it. If before it was possible to share photos and videos, now it will also be possible through texts! Not necessarily something long, like an actual text, but sentences that have at most 60 characters.

It is possible that this feature is not available to you yet, but if it is, just access the DMs window — the private messages — and just below the search bar, icons of your followers' profile pictures will appear with a balloon, showing the Nota that follower shared.

The first icon that appears is yours, and it is through it that you can make your note. When you click on it, a space will appear for you to create your note. After you create and share it, it will be available for 24h for all your followers, and they can interact with them as well as with other media shared in Stories, for example. Create a new Note will replace the previous one.

During testing, we found that people appreciate having an easy, lightweight way to share their thoughts and start conversations. From asking for recommendations to sharing what they're up to, Notes give people a casual and spontaneous way to express themselves and connect.

spontaneous stories

In English the spontaneous stories are known as "Candid Stories” and are being highly compared to the social network beer, which has the exact purpose: to share temporary photos in the most spontaneous way possible, that is, avoiding poses and/or filters.

And just like in beer, spontaneous Stories can only be viewed by those who have also shared some media in this way, it does not work like normal Stories that any follower can see, regardless of whether or not your contribution was made.

Capture a spontaneity in the stories camera, the multi-author story at the top of the feed, or from the daily notification reminder that starts after your first spontaneity. If you don't want to receive the daily notification reminder, you can turn it off in Settings. We are also testing a similar feature on Facebook Stories.

group profile

A new “community profile” will also be available soon. Called “group profile“, a page can be created so that there is a feed of photos and videos that only the members of this group can see and interact with. To create your group on Instagram, click on the positive (+) button in the upper right corner and then select “Group profiles”. There is still no confirmation of when this tool will reach users.

Soon, people will be able to create and join this new profile type to share posts and stories in a dedicated profile shared with friends. Whenever you share content on a group profile, that content will only be shared with group members instead of your followers and will be posted on the group profile instead of yours.

collaborative collections

Another novelty that will arrive in the future will be the collaborative collections🇧🇷 It will work like the existing session of items saved by you, however, they will work collectively, that is, you and your friends will be able to save publications together!

We're testing a way for people to connect with friends through common interests, saving posts to a collaborative collection in the group or individual DMs. To start or add to a collaborative collection, save a post directly to the feed or share a post with a friend via DM and save it there.

Your time

Stories with a box that indicate a trend, known as “Your turn“, will also receive an improvement: the pass it on. It will be possible to invite friends to participate by tapping “hand on” when you see a command that reminds you of them.

It is worth mentioning that possibly not all users will receive all these new features immediately, and even those who have already updated the application may not find these new features. Keep an eye on your app and whenever you need update it on your device to check if the news has already appeared.
