
O Instagram announced yesterday (15) in your blog who is testing a feed more personalized for your users. In the post, the network's representatives say users will be surprised to know “as almost 70% of your feeds are lost“. This is because, according to the Instagram, you may be following too many people and, in the end, you end up not seeing the photos and videos that interest you.
To solve this problem, the social network will order and suggest posts that most interest its users.
And how does Instagram know what I want to see?
That's a great question. Still in the post on the company's blog, they inform that their timeline (also called feed), will be ordered according to what you have liked the most in Instagram: "If your favorite musician shares a video from last night's show, it will be there when you update the app, or if your best friend posts a new photo of their puppy, you'll see it too" says the post.
The co-founder and head of Instagram himself Kevin Systrom had already spoken in an interview for the The New York Times, which is about making sure the 30% you see becomes the best 30% possible.
What the Instagram is doing in practice is to use a algorithm that learns what do you like to show you more images relevant to you, and in the end it makes a lot of sense.
And, this has an additional reason: at the end of last year, the social network had already informed that it would decrease the reach of its posts, so that brands could buy reach for posts, as it works in Facebook. The difference is, if you follow multiple athlete profiles, you will probably like to see posts about running or gym products. If you follow fashion profiles, maybe a post with fashion products might not interest you? And so the Instagram begins to create a chain of preferences where ads are more effective for brands.
The change in the order of posts may seem at first to be an uncomfortable detail, but it represents the first step towards a marketing revolution within the Instagram.
