Launched in September 2022, the line iPhone 14 — which includes the models iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro e iPhone 14 Pro Max — is Apple's latest smartphone technology. Bearing many similarities with the iPhone 13, from 2021, the new smartphones also have several unique features, and we are going to show you dozens of tips that will help you get the most out of your device. Despite focusing on the iPhone 14 line, some tips can also be applied to other models! Come on?

Watch the video on the Showmetech Channel:

Enjoy Dynamic Island

Speaking of news, let's start with one of the main highlights of the iPhone 14 Pro e Pro Max. Dynamic Island - Where Dynamic Islands — takes advantage of the new position of the smartphone's front camera and sensors, which remove the classic notch present since the iPhone X, creating a new possibility for this “lost” space on the screen. It can change size to show incoming calls, alerts, notifications, Face ID authentication, turn-by-turn navigation, music playback and so on.

You can tap or press the area to access different functions or launch apps. Think of it as a multitasking shortcut — one that still hides the iPhone's front camera, as well as the sensors that allow Face ID. If you have two apps running in the background, Live Island can be split into two sections, i.e. you will see a smaller pill on the left for one app and a small circle on the right for another app.

One of the novelties of Apple's new line of smartphones is the Dynamic Island. Image: TechCrunch

An example is for when you are using the application Music and ended up putting a timer in the app Clock, in this case, the music playback icon will be displayed on the left button and the stopwatch icon in the circle on the right. It is possible to have only two apps displayed on the Live Island when they are in the background.

If other apps are running in the background, such as the podcast, playlist, stopwatch, or call apps, this clipping will remain expanded until it finishes its activities. When you touch it, the respective application opens, and if you press it, you can check out more options, this being a multitasking tool.

Always-On Feature (Always On)

The iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max have the screen Always-On (or Always On), which makes the lock screen dark. Even with the feature turned on, it is still possible to check information such as widgets, the time, the wallpaper itself and much more with new technologies included in these devices, making the screen even more efficient when it comes to energy — a feature that, despite being new to us, Apple smartphones, is already well known in Android devices equipped with AMOLED screen.

This feature can be really nice for occasions when you just want to peek at widget information or check the time, without needing to unlock your iPhone. Always On intelligently manages to reduce brightness and refresh rate down to 1 Hz, which consequently saves battery life. The Always On display is enabled by default on iPhones 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.

Action Mode for more stable videos

With Action Mode in templates iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro, you can capture steadier videos even when you are moving around a lot.

O iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro They also have Action Mode. With this feature, these models are able to capture even more stable videos, even when there is a lot of movement. To activate it, open the app Camera and swipe right — or just click “Video”; then select the second button in the upper left corner — with a running person icon — to activate Action Mode; now just press the Red button to start recording the video.

Action Mode is more efficient when there is light exposure, otherwise you will see the message “More light needed”. You can change the settings to use Action Mode in low light too, check it out: open the app Settings and choose “Camera”; then select record video; now just activate the button Action Mode.

Action Mode is capable of capturing high resolution videos such as 1080p or even 2,8k up to 60 frames per second. It still has support for Dolby Vision HDR, and on the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max models, support for Apple ProRes videos.

Use the accident detector

As soon as the iPhone 14 detects a serious car accident an alert will be displayed and the device will automatically initiate a phone call to the emergency within 20 seconds — which can be cancelled. If there are no responses, the device will send an audio message to the emergency services, saying that there has been a serious accident and also sending the longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates in an approximate area of the location.

As soon as a situation similar to this happens, the tool Accident Detection will not make substitutions for emergency calls that already exist through other means. It is possible to deactivate automatic emergency calls and alerts when a serious accident occurs, accessing the application for this Settings and choose the option Emergency SOS and then disable in "Call after a serious accident“. This feature is enabled by default.

Satellite help

The iPhone 14's satellite connection also has the ability to use the Emergency SOS via satellite to send text messages to emergency services in scenarios where you find yourself without Wi-Fi or mobile internet access. THE Emergency SOS by satellite is able to connect you to emergency services on specific occasions, if there really are no other ways available at that time to make contact.

When you send text messages to emergency services or even try to make calls to them and are unable to do so – due to lack of internet connection/signal –, the iPhone will automatically try to make this satellite connection.

Check out our list of iPhone 14 tips. Got no signal and need help? The iPhone can connect via satellite to make emergency calls. Image: Apple

There are some tips that can help you get in touch with the emergency services through your iPhone, using the connection to available satellites, like holding your phone normally in your hand. You don't need to hold your iPhone up high or raise your arm, but it's also not a good idea to put it in your pocket or in a very confined space.

Make sure you are outside with a clear view of the sky. Trees with light foliage can end up hindering the speed of the connection, as well as denser foliage can interrupt the connection. Hills or mountains, canyons and tall structures can also be a barrier to this connection. If you need to turn left or right or even move to prevent the signal from being interrupted, the iPhone will offer directions, just follow the instructions that will be displayed on the screen.

To send text messages to emergency services via satellite you must first try calling emergency services. Even if the network is not available at that time, you will still be able to make the call. If your call does not connect, then you will be able to send text messages to emergency services via satellite.

Now click on Satellite Emergency Text. The Messages app will be available to send a text message to your local emergency number — such as 190. In this case, select the Emergency Services option. then choose Report Emergency. Use simple commands and answer emergency questions by better describing what happened.

You can choose to notify your emergency contacts that you tried to contact emergency services, along with your location and the reasons for the emergency. On-screen instructions for connecting to a satellite will appear. Continue following the on-screen instructions to stay logged in to finally send your message to the emergency services.

Once connected, your device will initiate a text conversation with first responders, sharing critical information like your Medical record and emergency contact information, if you've set them up. Your emergency quiz answers, your location, and the remaining battery life of your iPhone will be available.

Specific album protection

The application Photos has an album Hidden, whereby you can hide images that you wouldn't want anyone else who might have access to your device to see. When I say that whoever has access to your device can see it, it's because it offers basic security features, so the “Hidden” album turns out not to be so hidden after all.

To check this news, launch the Photos application and scroll down the entire application screen. In the last options you will see the album of Hidden and Deleted items, both with a padlock icon, that is, to access them you need your Face ID or device password.

View and share Wi-Fi passwords

Something that may sound basic only arrived on the iPhone with the guess of the iPhone 14: Wi-Fi password sharing. Before that, it was necessary to place two iPhones close together to make this sharing — and if the other device was Android, it would be left out. But now things have changed and this sharing is easier and clearer than before!

On the next screen, the Password with hidden characters option will appear, click there, enter the Face ID — or device password — and unlock the display of that Wi-Fi password!

Remove duplicate photos and/or videos

It is very common to download repeated photos or videos. Sometimes you receive the same media via WhatsApp, for example, and you end up having duplicate media taking up space in your iPhone's memory. Apple decided to bring a feature to help you remove these duplicates, just take a look.

If you want to make sure it's really a duplicate and want to do it manually, it's also possible.

Pin bookmarks in Safari

The default browser on Apple devices, the safari, limits the number of open tabs to 500 on the iPhone — but I think it's a little difficult for someone to reach that mark. But if you have loads of tabs open and would like to find a specific one, now you won't need to scroll through all the available ones.

Check out these essential tips to get the most out of your iPhone 14.
Check out our list of tips for iPhone 14. Apple's default browser, Safari, also received improvements: it is now possible to pin tabs to highlight them. Image: MacRumors

When you open the browser and find the tab you want, click and press on it until the option appears pin tab, select it. Ready! Now that tab will be moved to the top of the browser so you can easily access all your pinned tabs. The same process can be done to unpin tabs.

Connecting Joy-Cons on iPhone

Some time ago, Apple made the pairing of third-party controls available on its devices, as is the case with Xbox and PlayStation controls on iPads and iPhones, improving performance in mobile games. Now you can also add the Joy-Cons, Nintendo Switch controllers.

Then just unlock your iPhone, go to the Settings app and choose Bluetooth, now choose the Joy-Con option and that's it! Repeat the process to add the other control. Now all you have to do is have fun!

A detail that may bother users who came from Android — or even iPhone users themselves — is the fact that the lock button ends calls. For other users, the feature is very useful, but if you don't like it, go to Settings, choose Accessibility, select Ringtone and then deactivate the Block option to end the call. Now that button will no longer hang up your calls.

Ending calls with Siri

Next we will have a series of tips for interacting with Siri! With the new iPhone 14 line, in addition to using the side button to end a call or tapping the end call button on the screen, it is still possible to ask the virtual assistant, Siri, to hang up that call. While on a call say “Hey Siri, hang up” and the wizard will carry out the command shortly thereafter. Just be aware that the person on the other end of the call may end up listening to your command.

Upon confirmation, your device will reboot, but you will need to enter your iPhone's Face ID or passcode to complete.

Look how easy it is to activate it: open the application Settings, choose the option Accessibility, select Crab and now you can decide what period the assistant will wait for your command, whether it will be a period Standard, Long or Longer.
