OS 2
OS 2 was released with the iPhone 3G in 2008 and represented an important evolution in the history of iOS. The most important novelty was the App Store introduction, allowing users to install and run third-party applications and games. Support for networks 3G e GPS were also fundamental additions.
There were three intermediate versions, the OS 2.0, 2.1 e 2.2. Version 2.0 was the one that brought more news. Introduced in June 2010, that's when Apple's operating system got the name “iOS X”. One of the most important implementations was the multitasking ability, which enabled users to send an email while listening to music, for example. It was in this version that the app iBooks was introduced into the system, along with the iBookstore.
Over the course of the various updates that were made, other improvements were implemented, such as the introduction of FaceTime, Apple's software for video calling. The possibility to select and delete several photos at the same time, simple thing nowadays, was also included in the iOS 4.
iOS 5
In 2011 Apple gave birth to the iPhone 4S, and with it, to iOS 5. The big news was the Siri, voice-operated virtual assistant from Apple (previously the functionality was available as a standalone app on the App Store). Integrated with the iPhone, Siri started to allow text transcription and calls, in addition to other possibilities for voice commands.
With hundreds of additions and new features, iOS 5 was the first to receive the iMessage. It was also in this version that the Twitter has been integrated to the system and the iCloud, Apple's online backup system, was implemented to replace the old MobileMe.

iOS 6
Na WWDC de 2012, Tim Cook gave a novelty that surprised many users. The new iOS would no longer be integrated with Google Maps, but with the Apple Maps, of the company itself.
