Imagine a parallel reality in which you could enter your favorite story and live in that universe? This is basically the author's idea of Player Nº 1 (Ready Player One) with the company Futureverse. The ambitious project will allow fans of the film and book to immerse themselves in the fictional world and live the entire interactive experience of the plot game, exploring the characters' scenarios and challenges.

In 2021, Bobby KotickCEO of Blizzard Entertainment, a gaming company, believed that the narrative metaverse would be the future and evolution of games. Curious how this is becoming more and more real.

The Story of Ready Player One

In the director's film Steven Spielberg, based on the book by Ernest Cline, called Player No. 1 (Ready Player One), the story takes place in the year 2045, in a world on the brink of chaos. People seek refuge in OASIS, a vast virtual reality universe created by the brilliant James Halliday. After his death, he leaves his entire fortune to whoever finds hidden treasure within his game, triggering a global competition. Wade Watts, the protagonist, decides to participate in this competition, starting a very risky journey full of dangers through this virtual world.

The story offers a very true narrative about the potential and challenges of the metaverse, which connects to current discussions and technological advances in the search for creating and expanding interactive and very complex virtual environments.

Currently, companies like Meta (previously Facebook), ecosystem, and other technology giants are investing significantly in the development of these types of universes such as the fictional plot. The idea is to create three-dimensional digital spaces where people can interact, work, have fun and even carry out commercial transactions. Considering what science fiction would be a priori, and becoming increasingly current, the work of Ernest Cline It always seemed like the perfect choice to start something within this new technology of AR and VR devices.

Player Nº 1 is the perfect intellectual property to begin this journey, as it is already embedded in popular culture and is about returning control to the hands of the user. As a vehicle to start this, it's the perfect choice.

What is Readyverse Studios?

This entire unprecedented project comes from a partnership between the author of Player Nº 1 and Futureverse, a cutting-edge company in artificial intelligence and virtual content creation, with the aim of taking the famous story of the book to the metaverse universe. Together, they are both establishing the Readyverse Studios together with Dan Farah, producer of the film adaptation.

This collaboration aims to recreate the narrative using the latest technologies associated with modern Web3, which seeks to create an internet where there are not so many intermediaries or large companies controlling everything. In addition to bringing the story to this new space, the studio will also have exclusive rights to any new intellectual property created by Ernest Cline. It's an exciting opportunity to expand the universe of the work and explore the creative potential of the metaverse, especially when there is already talk about a possible sequel to the story.

Readyverse Studios is laying the groundwork to bring the promise of the open metaverse depicted in the novel Player Nº 1 (Ready Player One) from Cline and the blockbuster film adaptation into a tangible reality: a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable open metaverse experience for mass consumers.

Futureverse

Spielberg's film, released in 2018, was full of references coming not only from Spielberg's vast catalog of films and TV shows Warner Bros., but also from several other brands and programs, as well as pop culture from the 80s. It is with this in mind that the co-founders of Futureverse seek to enable this type of experience brought into the real world, while lowering technological barriers so that a wider variety of creators can easily build and explore their own immersive experiences.

Furthermore, despite the introduction to the world of Player Nº 1, the idea is to expand as much as possible to other types of stories. The approach of Readyverse Studios offers promise for studios looking to introduce their entertainment franchises into experiences in this way. This initiative not only provides users with access to fictional universes, but also aims to expand possibilities for the public and maintain the protection of intellectual property rights.

How will it work?

But the great curiosity is about the practical part of the project and what plans and details were already being thought of.

According to information, the Readyverse Studios will include licensed digital props and other intellectual property from the film, thanks to an agreement established with Warner Bros, producer of the film. The founders are also in the process of negotiating with other Hollywood brands and studios to secure similar licensing deals.

Furthermore, the project will be driven by a set of content creation tools developed over five years by Futureverse. These tools include a 3D prop maker, as well as music and sound creation, powered by generative artificial intelligence, combining proprietary and open source technology.

Two key elements also stand out: a “digital passport”, containing personal information, and the ReadyPass, described as “the ticket to the show”. These features will provide players with a single login, identity, avatar, payment information, and mobile access to digital items across all worlds created using these tools. Furthermore, these resources will allow you to immerse yourself in experiences beyond your own Readyverse.

And despite the Readyverse Studios is not yet completely ready to launch, an announcement will be made in the coming weeks regarding future user engagement, according to Aaron McDonald, co-founder of the project.

It seems that through official website, they are already offering the opportunity for early access to the virtual environment for those interested in exploring space. When you sign up to the list with your email, they promise to send you updates on the project's progress and information on how to secure this early access.

This approach is common in many launches of new platforms or virtual environments, giving interested parties the chance to be among the first to try and test what's coming. Receiving these updates by email will allow users to stay up to date with the latest news and know when it will be possible to explore the Readyverse Studios before public release.
