Maintaining the quality of photos on Instagram
First, let's share the tips for you to prepare your posts with high resolution images on Instagram. Check out the tips below.
Follow the ideal size for photos
One of the main points that you should consider when using any social network is the size supported for media files – each has its own parameters and runs away from them will impact the resolution of the images at the time of posting.
Therefore, one of the first things you should do to maintain the quality of photos on Instagram is to check the size of the chosen image. So far, the social network allows posts with three formats (and each of them has a different specification regarding size):
- square (square): In the beginning, Instagram only allowed square images, and despite this exclusivity no longer exists, it is still possible to post with this format. In this case, the minimum size is 600 x 600 pixels, however, it is possible to achieve better results with photos of 1800 1800 pixels x.
- Landscape or landscape (horizontal): here, the minimum supported size is 600 x 320 pixels, but you'd better opt for photos with 1080 566 pixels x.
- Portrait or portrait (vertical): the minimum size is 480 × 600 pixels, but it is recommended that you use images with 1080 × 1350 pixels.

If you share a lower resolution photo, Instagram will scale it up to a width of 320 pixels, and if you share a higher resolution image, it will adjust to a width of 1080 pixels. If you have a photo whose resolution is below or above what is required to maintain quality when posting on Instagram, you can resize your image on free websites.
Share images within aspect ratios
As well as the resolution of images, Instagram has a aspect ratio specific for sharing. Running away from them will result in automatic cuts – and you don't want that to happen to your photo.
- square (square): the proportion used is 1:1.
- Landscape or landscape (horizontal): here, the proportion recommended by Instagram is 1,91:1, however it is possible to get up to 16:9.
- Portrait or portrait (vertical): the proportion is 4:5.
According to Instagram, when you share a photo whose width is between 320 and 1080 pixels, the platform preserves the original resolution as long as the aspect ratio is between 1,91:1 and 4:5, with a height between 566 and 1350 pixels. and width of 1080 pixels. If you try to post a photo with a different aspect ratio, the social network will crop the image to fit your standard.

Check the photo format
The third step is to check the image format you want to share on the social network. Instagram's default format for photos is JPEG (.jpg), which means that any other uploaded format, such as PNG (.png) or BITMAP (.bmp), will automatically be converted to JPEG and possibly lose quality during the process.
How to upload photos directly from desktop
Posting photos on Instagram directly from your computer can be a good idea to maintain the desired quality, especially if you use software more advanced editing tools such as Photoshop, and want to guarantee the visualization of the images in high resolution and com good sharpness.
