It is very common to see in social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram the famous check stamp, that icon — usually blue — indicating that that profile has some kind of relevance or indicating that it is the original profile of that person. O LinkedIn, a social network focused on jobs and networking, will also feature this tool, which will now display this seal on profiles that confirm their personal information and where they are working. Understand.

More clarity on social media

This new verification step in the LinkedIn arrives with the new option called CLEAR, able to prove your identity, confirm the company you work for through an email and also together with the Microsoft Log in, for verifying the platform ID to get a digital copy of that ID — all of this for free. This professional verification via e-mail must be done with the corporate e-mail or through Microsoft Entra, if the company where the user works has a link with this service.

“This is just the beginning. Verified ID credentials can increase trust, authenticity and verifiability while reducing cost, time and friction in many scenarios,” said Joy Chik, President of Identity and Network Access at Microsoft. Image: The Verge

For personal verification, LinkedIn created a partnership with CLEAR, allowing the user to securely confirm their information. Once your information has been confirmed on the platform, your profile will show that this verification has taken place. LinkedIn will highlight verifications with a green and blue badge on profiles.

Verification through the user's corporate e-mail is now available to all network users, a feature that is open to more than 4.000 companies that are registered on the platform. Microsoft Entra verification will arrive on LinkedIn at the end of April 2023, initially for around 2 million users.

Apparently verification with clear will work exclusively for users who have an American government ID and a number also from the United States, according to the official page of the social network. Image: linkedin

As more companies use cloud technology and hiring often happens remotely in recent years – mainly as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic – the need for online verification of information becomes increasingly essential. Microsoft is working on its own system, the Enter Verified ID — just what we're seeing as new on LinkedIn — based on open standards so it can work across a variety of HR and identity systems.

Online authenticity has never been more important. We've seen a steady increase in fraudulent presentations with people pretending to be people they're not in all kinds of different ways. You really want to know that if you interact with someone who claims to be employed by a certain company or represents a certain company, you can trust who they say they are. The need for this is quite clear.

Microsoft Sign in for more security

IDs digitally verified through the Microsoft Enter can be used for checks of many types such as loan applications, criminal background checks, rewards programs and many others. The system should also facilitate integration into new jobs, mainly because the candidate will be able to verify their skills and qualifications and use them in different companies and jobs, thus avoiding the need to go through a more rigorous security system.

The announcement of the service on YouTube was made yesterday, April 12, 2023, so that users can better understand how this tool works. The video is currently only available in English.

The system works through a decentralized identity involving a verifier, a holder and an issuer. Companies can issue encrypted digital signatures, which employees can also use to prove they have an employment relationship or even to get loans. the intention of Microsoft is to advance more and more with this type of system to more places that need these verification and security steps.
