Continuing the critically acclaimed sister trilogy Wachowski which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 22, Matrix Resurrections gets a new trailer released today by Warner Bros. In this sequel, Neo will once again have to choose between the red and blue pills and return to the Matrix, which is now more immersive and powerful than before.
Déjà Vu, the bug in the Matrix
The trailer concept explores an old franchise concept known as Déjà Vu. This phenomenon is related to flaws in the Matrix, the virtual world where machines imprison human beings. In the first film, Déjà Vu is introduced to us when Neo sees a black cat and comments that he had the impression that he had been through the same situation before. Trinity, in turn, claims that this type of failure happens when the machines themselves are performing some change or maintenance on the system, which makes humans have this feeling.
In the new trailer, Trinity's explanation of the phenomenon of Déjà Vu is played several times throughout the video, which repeats old scenes from the trilogy with new ones, present in the upcoming feature. The montage serves to remind the viewer that the Matrix actually operates through cycles and, with its restart, a new cycle will begin. It is noteworthy that, due to the fact that the Déjà Vu phenomenon is receiving so much attention, it is believed that they may be related to the dreams mentioned by Neo during the primeiro movie trailer.

Other voice over also reveals something quite interesting: the new Matrix uses code from the old one. This means that previous data will be loaded again, which justifies the presence of certain characters who return, even more so in different conditions, as is the case of Morpheus, who will be played by another actor. In the original trilogy, Neo's mentor is played by Lawrence Fishburne, who even regretted not being asked to revive the character after all these years.
It is also noted that it is possible that the reuse of the code is harmful to the Matrix itself, since the signs that appear throughout the trailer appear to be in decay, as if they were struggling to maintain themselves.
In the new feature, the roles of Neo and Trinity are reprized by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, respectively. The new Morpheus will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, while Jada Pinkett Smith and Daniel Bernhardt will return for the role of Niobium and Agent Smith. The film will be directed by Lana Wachowski alone, without her sister Lily, who also co-wrote the original trilogy. Check out the official synopsis:
In a world of two realities – everyday life and what lies behind it – Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once again. Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way into or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, safer and more dangerous than ever before.
