Predictions for the iPhone 17

About a month ago we saw Apple launch the iPhone 15, the new line of smartphones made up of four different models. And even with the big news hitting the market, many users are already wanting to know what to expect from the next releases. Today we will talk about some rumors that Ross Young, Founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, in addition to being a great technology insider, is bringing you information about the next models.

According to Ross Young, models iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus, scheduled for launch in 2025, will be the first entry-level iPhones to feature a 120 Hz refresh rate. Currently, entry-level iPhone screens have a 60 Hz refresh rate, that is, they update 60 times per second, which is half the rate update of the ProMotion screens of the Pro models.

The tipster goes on to state that the iPhone 16, scheduled for next year, will have a 6,12-inch screen, while the iPhone 16 Plus will have a 6,69-inch screen, a slight adjustment when compared to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus that They are, respectively, 6,1 and 6,7 inches. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus will have 6,27-inch and 6,86-inch screens, an increase from the previous ones.

Already the models iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have 6,27-inch and 6,86-inch screens, respectively, with an aspect ratio increased to 19,6:9. All other specifications will remain the same compared to the 2023 Pro devices.

iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus will replace the low-temperature polysilicon display (LTPS) by a low temperature polycrystalline oxide screen (LTPO). With LTPO, the refresh rate can be adjusted to a lower value when certain content, such as emails, is displayed on the screen, resulting in longer battery life.

By 2025, Young expects the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max to replace the Dynamic Island with an under-screen Face ID with the traditional camera for FaceTime and selfies. So, if you liked the Dynamic Island, Young suggests that this feature will probably no longer exist on the 2025 Pro models, although it will still be present on the entry-level models that year.

Last Saturday, October 14th, residents of several countries around the world, including Brazil, had the opportunity to witness an annular solar eclipse. This phenomenon occurs when the Moon is positioned between Earth and the Sunl. The eclipse began to be visible on the west coast of the United States and, in the afternoon, finally reached Brazil, the last country to experience this astronomical event. The total duration of the eclipse was approximately two hours.

The privileged regions for observation were the North and Northeast, where the eclipse reached its maximum point, creating the long-awaited “fire ring“. In other regions, when the weather permitted, residents also had the opportunity to see the Sun being partially covered by the Moon.

Many records around the world were made showing the phenomenon in its various phases. Here in Brazil we also had incredible moments, such as the capture made by photographer Marcelo Maragni highlighting surfer Italo Ferreira in Rio Grande do Norte. It was quite a click, right?

The most recent annular eclipse of the Sun took place in June 2021, however, it was not visible in Brazil. The next such event is scheduled to take place in October 2, 2024, but will only be visible in the southern tip of South America and areas of the Pacific Ocean.

The alignment between the Moon, the Earth and the Sun will appear again in the skies on February 17, 2026, however, it will be mainly visible in the Antarctic region. In February 6, 2027, the phenomenon can only be observed in the city of Chuí, located in the extreme south of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
