Double Dragon

Metacritic: N/A | IMDb: N/A | IGN: 7.5

Considered the forerunner of the genre beat 'em up, Double Dragon is an arcade medallion that received an excellent conversion in the NES. As one of two brothers Billy e Jimmy LeeMore, you have to beat up the banditry in your city to rescue the girlfriend of Billy from the clutches of the gang Black Warriors. Although simple by today's standards, its gameplay remains addictive, and there's a lot to enjoy in this game, let alone playing it in pairs.

Another incredible game of its kind developed by the same studio and released two years after Double Dragon é River City Ransom, which also revolutionized the world of games by presenting an open and fully explorable world, bringing a level system, typical of RPGs, and combined with a beating game style. Nightshade

Metacritic: N/A | IMDb: 6,3 | IGN: N/A

Nightshade is indeed a rather out-of-the-curve choice for this list of must-have games for the game. Nintendo Switch Online, but there is a reason to bear in the matter. It is one of the few adventure games in the NES and brings a combination of action with elements common to the beloved point 'n clicks , the Monkey Island e Day of the Tentacle. Beyond Oasis

Metacritic: N/A | IMDb: 7,8 | IGN: 8

Beyond Oasis is considered by many to be The Legend of Zelda de Mega Drive, and there is a very simple reason for that: it is VERY reminiscent of the classic game of Nintendo. But despite the obvious similarities, Beyond Oasis manages to stand out and be a game of its own and not just a mere copy, thanks to its fun gameplay and wonderful graphics.

Castlevania bloodlines

Metacritic: 81% (Switch Anniversary Collection version) | IMDb: 7,5 | IGN: 7.6

Despite most releases in the series Castlevania were practically exclusive to Nintendo consoles until the 16-bit generation, the Konami did not leave the owners of Mega Drive backwards, bringing an entirely new title to Sega's system. Castlevania bloodlines is the purest juice of the game style of Castlevania pre Symphony of the Night, that is, it does not have a map to explore or an inventory of items to collect. Still, it's one of the best Castlevania 16-bits, or even the entire series.

The same way as Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, from NESOn Bloodlines you have the option to play with more than one character. One of them is John Morris, clan member Belmont and user of the traditional whip Vampire Killer, and the other is your friend Eric Lecarde, who uses a trident as a weapon. Contra: Hard Corps is another Konami classic released for the Super Nintendo's rival 16-bit system. hard corps it's an extremely difficult game, but that doesn't mean it's unfair. Dynamite Headdy

Metacritic: N/A | IMDb: 7,4 | IGN: 7.5

Platform games with pets were all the rage for the 16-bit generation, and with Dynamite Headdy Sega was looking for the next Sonic. Unfortunately, it didn't even come close to the level of the blue hedgehog, but it's still a very fun and different game. Powered by beloved developer Treasure, Dynamite Headdy lives up to the name of the studio.

you play like headdy, a puppet living in a world very similar to a theater setting, full of charm and very colorful. But not everything is a charm in his land, and, with the arrival of an evil rival, her role becomes that of a hero, even though she doesn't look like one. Gunstar Heroes

Gunstar Heroes is another gem coming from the developer Treasure, which made its name during this generation and especially with games for the Mega Drive. This time, it brings an electrifying and extremely unique shooter, not only in terms of gameplay, but also in terms of visuals. The game has a very different graphic style, which uses sprites in a way that characters can occupy a larger space on the game screen.

There's a huge range of weapons to choose from and use, and the most interesting feature of this game is the ability to choose the order in which you play your levels. Of all Treasure titles released for the Mega Drive, Gunstar Heroes is one of the most beloved by the public, so much so that it is always included in compilations released by Sega. Received an excellent continuation in the GameBoy Advance with the name of Gunstar Super Heroes and let's cheer for her to be brought to the NSO!

Mega Man: The Willy Wars

Metacritic: N/A | IMDb: 6,6 | IGN: N/A

A Capcom became notorious during the 16-bit console generation for re-releasing its games, especially the numerous versions of Street Fighter II placed on the market at that time, a reputation that lasts until today. But, in the case of Mega Man: The Willy Wars, the first three games of the Blue Bomber did not reach consoles around the world in the same way, causing their release in NSO be quite special.

This is due to the fact that only Europe actually had a cartridge released in its market. In the case of the United States, Mega Man: The Willy Wars could only be accessed on the ill-fated online service of genesis (o North American Mega Drive): to SegaNet. This special collection of Mega Man features graphically updated versions of Mega Man, Mega Man 2 e Mega Man 3 and a special game mode called wily tower, which puts the player face to face with all bosses in sequence.

The series, which always brought a high level of quality, with extremely fun RPG adventures and many hours of duration, continued to be exceptional with Phantasy Star 4.

Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master

Metacritic: 62% | IMDb: 7,4 | IGN: 8

Joe Musashi, Sega's famous ninja, made his glorious return to the Mega Drive in one of the company's most beautiful and challenging 16-bit console games. The action is unbridled and breathtaking, with beautiful graphics and exquisite gameplay. No wonder that, for many, this is the best of the series, which continued to receive games after Sega left the console business, but which never reached the degree of popularity of this one.

Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master features a delightful variety of gameplay, with the master swordsman not only running around and slashing his enemies with ninja stars and power-ups ninjitsu, but also with jet skis and even a horse. Nothing is able to contain the fury of Shinobi, as you will see in this game, an absolute Sega classic.

Streets of Rage 2

Metacritic: 89% (3DS version) | IMDb: 8,2 | IGN: 7.3

Streets of Rage 2 it's by far the best beat 'em up released to the Mega Drive, and with good reason it is the level to be reached until today for games of the genre. With an exquisite soundtrack composed by Yuzo koshiro and rounded gameplay, it's a pleasure to beat down urban criminality in the skin of Axel e Blaze, who, this time, are helped by Eddie "Skateboard", a skinny and light fighter who goes on roller skates; and the mighty wrestling master Max thunder.

To call Streets of Rage 2 of the Mega Drive's "locket" is to treat it lightly. It's a must-have game, so much so that Sega always brings it in game collections for its 16-bit console. It's still absurdly playable and has a pretty high fun factor, and it doesn't take long to clear.

Thunderforce II

Thunderforce II is another navinha game that is very worth playing, even if it is dated. the version of NSO is the one of Mega Drive and, even at almost 30 years old, it continues to bring a generous dose of challenge. Unlike many games of the genre considered classics on the Mega Drive, this one is played from left to right, not vertically.

The game was the first in the series to feature power ups, which would form the basis of its sequels. By accumulating several of these powers, your ship becomes a major threat to enemy forces, but remember: if you die, you'll have to put everything back together if you want to have a chance of reaching the end.

Studio Camelot brought one of the best sports games to the Nintendo 64 with Mario Tennis 64. The first appearance of Waluigi takes place in this game, and much of what would become part of the franchise (which still gets games to this day) was established in this one. The most fun is bringing a friend to play, or several to tournaments, as the computer-controlled tennis players don't pose much of a challenge, even at the highest difficulty level.

Mario Tennis 64, together with mario golf 64, kicked off the fever for sports games with Mario's gang, not only bringing quite competent titles but also showing that not-so-serious simulations of certain sports deserve a place in video games.
