If playing video games is good, reading about them can be even better! It is for this purpose that we catalog, in this special article, the 40 best books about video games. Publications that deal, in some way, with this rich universe filled with art, culture and information are always necessary. Therefore, we separated the most prominent titles in the gamer literature (many of which have editions translated into our language) and present — along with the release data, author and publisher name — a brief description and its cover image. Have fun!
The best books on video games
Make a list with the best video game books already launched can be an arduous task, but believe me, dear reader, it also has its rewards and they can lead us to many discoveries and findings with a view to a next acquisition. Our task was to list the most important and impactful books (and also collections) dealing with electronic games, without taking the merit of so many other great works that are not on this list.

Thus, our article is subdivided into sections of books by their format. Initially, we list the biographical books or those aimed at a great personality in the world of games to, in sequence, put the best gamer publications in encyclopedia format, with a lot of specific information about a topic or general subjects. Then we include the historiographical books, which tell in a more detailed and denser way the real history of the video game industry, to close with a selection of books aimed at the more visual and artistic of electronic games.
We do not include categories here Romance — whose books capture influences from games to build their scripts — and Guides, which contains descriptive steps for completing a game. Both are valid subjects, however, very comprehensive and specific, and therefore, for the most part, do not describe the electronic games industry in a more comprehensive and focused on the real world.

Like any self-respecting list, it has its bias of the author, carrying their experience and tastes, and that, therefore, may not reflect the taste of the majority. This way, We invite all readers who, in some way, want to contribute, to list, in the comments below, any other great work that you consider important and that should be listed here.
Still, there is no large global website specializing in ratings scores for books as exists in us games e movies/series, making the task of organizing a list like this even more challenging. However, many sales sites with reviews, and also quotes, both by other books and by lists (such as this one in article format) contributed to the development of this text. That said, let's get to the games, I mean, the game books!
